Greeting the New Engineer

A lot had happened in the last day, most of it of a serious nature. It was nice to get good news for a change. Word came to her that a shuttle had made it to Turkana IV with her new Chief Engineer. So Sam decided to head to the shuttlebay to meet the Klingon.

Kahlaras walked out of the shuttle with a single bag in one hand and a bat'leth in the other. His small crate of other weapons and belongings was transported to his quarters. He looked around and spotted a few people. He had just transferred from the USS Paladin and really didn't know anyone on board. The shuttle bay doors opened and the Captain walked through them. Kahlaras proceeded to put down his bag and his bat'leth.

"Commander Kahlaras. Welcome to the Calypso," she said, offering her forearm in the Warrior's greeting. "I'm glad you made it. We've had a few run ins with mercenaries," she said by way of explanation.

Kahlaras took the woman's arm."Qa'pla Captain. The mercenaries would have been foolish to attack my shuttle. It would have been the worst thing they could have possibly done." he said with a fang filled smile.

Sam grinned, a twinkle in her eye. "You may have your chance before we get out of here," she informed him. "Chief Petty Officer Montgomery was our Chief, but she's been taken ill with a virus that's been causing trouble. We're sending Commander Sinclair to a rehab facility. If she doens't improve soon, Shalie will be joining him."

"Hopefully they get better soon. Is this virus contagious?"

"Yes, but we don't know why only a very few people have come down with it. Most of those who have are sick for a week. Very, very few get worse, so I wouldn't worry too much about it. If you're concerned, talk to Lieutenant Bowen in sickbay."

"I'm not worried Captain. tlhIngan mah!" he shouted in Klingon."Thats I am Klingon if you didn't know."

"I don't speak Klingon, so thank you for the translation," she said. "I'm not worried,either. so far only humans have been infected. Is there anything you need from me?" she asked.

"Unless you can provide me with a barrel of blood wine then no, Captain." Kahlaras said

"I'm not supposed to know this," Sam said conspiratorially, "But if you talk to the Quartermaster, he can probably help you."

"Kahlaras raised an eyebrow."I think I like this ship already." he said smiling.

"I hope so. It's a good group of people." She handed him a PaDD. "This has all the information you should need. If you haev any questions, feel free to ask me or Major Raine -- he's acting XO right now."

"Sounds good. I will do just that should the need arise, Captain."

"Very good. I won't keep you further. Get settled in and meet your staff. We'll have plenty for you to do soon enough," She said, grinning.

"Thank you, Captain."
