[OLD]

"Now." He said, eyes turning eerily bright again. "Rules. You lie, I shoot you. You make loud noises to alert your friends, I shoot you. You try to break free, I shoot you." He paused for a moment "Pretty much if you do anything I don't like, I will shoot you." He waved the pistol in his hand around mocking the lack of concern he had for the mans safety.

"Good?" He asked as he looked to Samantha.

[NEW]

She rolled her eyes in response. Not exactly what she would have preferred, but he wasn't going straight to torture, which was a step in the right direction. She looked at the man on the floor. "I'm Betazoid. That means I will know when you're lying," she informed the man. "So your best bet is to tell the truth and you'll live."

She looked over at Teenan. "Good?" she asked, imitating his tone.

"Excellent, let us begin. We will start with a few baseline questions." He thought for a moment. "You are in fact a woman, is this true?"

The man looked perplexed at him for a moment before grunting no and shaking his head.

Teenan looked to Samantha for her read.

"I think that's an obvious no," she said with a half smile. "How about something a little more in my line?" She turned to the man. "What's your name?"

He said nothing for a moment, then growled, "Mordon."

Sam looked at Teenan. "He's testing us. His name is Pyal."

The man looked at her, started. "I told you. I'm a telepath."

"Well forgive me for my inadequate question. My methods vary dramatically from yours." The Grand Marshal pointed at the pistol in his hand and gave her a wide eye.

"Alright then, who do you work for Pyal?" Teenan asked as he circled the man.

After a few seconds the man in a seemingly begrudging tone answered. "I was hired by the Alliance."

Sam looked at Pyal. "No, you don't. You don't work for any of the three." She looked at the Grand Marshal. "He works for a faction not from this planet." She wasn't sure who he worked for as that information was buried too deeply. But she could tell enough to know that it wasn't someone from Turkana IV.

Teenan nodded with an understanding look on his face. He walked up next to the prisoner and punched him across the face with all his strength. The force was enough to knock the man over from his kneeling position on to the cold metal floor where he thumped helplessly.

Teenan grumbled something under his breath along the lines of "...It's like hitting the side of a house." While rubbing his knuckles again.

"Since you are new at this, I decided to give you a warning about lying to us." He waved his sore hand a bit in the air "But now my hand hurts, so there won't be another warning."

He walked over to the man and roughly 'helped' him off the floor and back into a kneeling position. His cheek had been split open along with his upper lip from the hit. Blood poured in a steady trickle down his face from the cuts.

"Are we ready to start again?" Teenan asked the Commander. "I'm certain he is."

Sam didn't like it, but she knew it would be a bad idea to tell Teenan that in front of their prisoner. "Okay." She turned to the man on the floor. "Whom do you work for?"

"If I tell you, he'll kill me."

Sam looked at Teenan. "He's telling the truth. If we force the information out of him, he'll die. So he maybe more willing to die at our hands."

She turned back to Pyal. "Fair enough. Why did you kidnap us?"

Pyal looked at her, his thoughts so clear she didn't need the words. "Never mind," she said.

She walked over to Teenan and whispered, "To stop the peace talks and keep the Federation from finding out about the testing. Apparently your planet is being used to test some sort of device."

She looked at Pyal to ask him another question, but he'd fallen to the ground, unconscious.

Teenan shook his head, though apparently at the information and less for the man passing out.

"A device? What kind of device?"

"He doesn't have all the details. There's some device his boss is testing on the planet. There isn't more than that."

A deep frown burrowed itself in Teenan's brow as he considered this information. He turned and walked over to the prone captive. From a standing position he looked at the uniform the mercenary was wearing intently. Then, with a questioning look on his face, he bent down and examined the patch on his shoulder.

"I've never seen this mercenary group before." He said as if it had more meaning attached to it than he let on.

"I don't recognize it, either. The computer might have something in the database about it, though," Sam said, looking over his shoulder. She sat back against the wall. "Well, we have more information than we did, which is good. Now, we just need to get out of here so we can make use of it."
