Mission:
Peace, or Something Like It
Location: Turkana IV
ON
Jerry didn't really like the idea of going back down to Turkana IV. The entire environment just didn't jive with him. All the pollutants in the air made it smell bad, the people were sullen, and the whole thing just felt a little off. But no matter, the intrepid science officer walked into the transporter room, the first time he was ever the first to something, with a personally recalibrated tricorder for the environmental conditions on the dustball below. He had also found a little liquid courage had helped the last time, so he'd grabbed some synthehol before leaving and downed it so he was feeling a little more pleasant and accepting even than normal, without any real fogginess.
Leo walked into the room next, dressed in battle gear and looking sullen. "Stupid people," he growled, grabbing a flask and drinking some of the contents. "Why do we have to be up so early? If these people want peace, then make them do it themselves." Shaking his head, he put the flask away in a cargo pocket and chuckled. "Sorry, I'm just now waking up, didn't mean to say anything to make you uncomfortable."
Jerry shook his head, his Betazoid abilities having already prepped him for an onslaught like this. He knew the emotion wasn't directed at him, but at a common goal. He shrugged lightly. "Nothing to be sorry for, especially when we're in agreement. But we signed up for the Fleet, so, here we are. Gotta do what we gotta do."
Jason Hart walked in and chuckled. "Here we go again..." He patted his bag on the side of his hip that contained a hypospray and some medication vials. This time, he is traveling light since the last trip to this planet was not necessary to have so many stuff. "Smoking the pot in their atmosphere...again," he said as he remembered how polluted the planet's air is.
Leo smiled and shook his head. "You want that set of Marines watching your back again Doc? We're not doing much except for repairs in certain area's." Taking the flask back out, he unscrewed the cap and took a deep drink. Holding the flask out he smiled. "Its not synthehol and it'll knock you over, but it'll do more for your nerves than morphine."
He raised his right eyebrow at him, "I'm a big boy...just give me a phaser and I will be fine." He watched him drink something clear, "You shouldn't be drinking something strong on duty..."
In with the rest of the squad of Marines walked Chief Warrant Officer Wendel T. Gavin. He himself was dressed for combat operations like Leo, but unlike the lieutenant his rifle had an underslung grenade launcher which was currently slung over his shoulder, and he had his helmet neatly tucked under his arm at his side.
Striding over to Leo he stood to attention and gave him the usual relaxed salute becoming of experienced long-time Warrant Officers such as himself.
"CWO Gavin reporting lieutenant, the Sergeant came down with some sort of virus and was medically barred. He gave me the sitrep, I studied the briefing to fill in the gaps."
"Unshakable virus," Jason said softly to himself. He looked over at the Chief Science Officer, "Going back to the planet too? Missed something scientific?"
Leo gave Wendell a look and half returned the salute. "Sorry to hear about the Sergeant. You'll have to do tho Chief. We have a team with the doctor," looking behind the man, he shook his head. "Half of you return to normal duty, the other half stay here. I want to four ladies with the doc again, and those that didn't go down last time and want to this time, you've got first hitch." As some of the men moaned and walked off, he noticed that none of the origonal team, minus the Doctor's guards, had stayed. Shrugging he looked back at the Chief. "You know the rules, no firing unless fired upon, and try to keep the puppies from under foot." Taking another swig of the vodka, he put the flask away and stepped up on the board. "Energise, normal location." As his body dissolved into millions of light blue motes, he winked and smiled.
Shalie entered the transporter room as the group prior to her dematerialized. She was running late which was not something she was accustomed to. She knew she was going to have her work cut out for her on the planet. She climbed up on the transporter pad and nodded to the operator. The room melted away and was soon replaced with terrain of the planet below.
