A Call From Mum

"Corporal Ryan, have Corporal McCarthy report to my office ASAP" Hawkes roared from his office.

"The comms to the squad bay are offline Gunnery Sergeant." the Duty Corporal replied.

"Corporal Ryan, you are a marine, Improvise, Adapt & Overcome. Run down there and fetch her then" Hawkes chastised

A few minutes later, Corporal McCarthy appeared at his door.

"You wanted to see me Gunnery Sergeant" McCarthy addressed the First SGT

"Come in and close the door, Corporal" Hawkes responded.

Samantha marched in and sat at attention. "Rest easy Corporal" Hawkes commanded

"I've just received a communication from your mother." Hawkes began

Samantha groaned, squirming in her seat. "She seems to think the Orion is not a safe posting for you and wants you shipped back to a Starbase." Hawkes continued enjoying McCarthy's discomfort.

"My mother ....." Samantha started but was cut off by Hawkes. "Don't speak about your mother like that" he chastised her.

"You know what's she like Jeth.....Gunnery Sergeant" Samantha pleaded her case. "Starbases are boring, I want to do something with my career."

"Relax Sammy" Hawkes laughed. "I told mum you would be staying on the Orion, you are just as capable a marine as she is." he continued

"You're the only one that still gets away with calling me Sammy, is that why you picked me as your #2, to keep an eye on me."

"No. You're my number 2 because you were the second best STA Operator out there and I wanted someone good to keep my ass out of the fire. Your mum would kill me if I got hurt again." he laughed and soon they were both laughing and reminiscing about growing up in Samantha's house.
