Peace, or Something Like It

Shalie was finally off for the day and despite her love of having her own quarters she was beginning to miss the excitement of mingling with the rest of the crew. With this thought in mind she had quickly changed and headed for the lounge. It was normally a pretty easy place to meet almost anyone from any department. In her short time on the ship she had met quite a few people but not near enough to keep herself entertained.
Stepping though the doors as they opened Shalie headed for the bar. She wasn't there long before she had a drink in hand. As she turned to head towards a booth she collided with a man standing not a few steps behind her. Shocked by the sudden stop her fingers released the glass and it clattered to the floor. Splashing both of their shoes with the stick sweet liquid. "God, I am so sorry." she said with a guilty smile.
Leroy, still in his combat fatigues from his recent trip planet side looked down at the glass and shook his head. "No it's my fault. I was rushing in here for a quick drink before I had to debrief my men, and you just happened to be turning around. Leroy Mangalia, or Leo to most people," he said holding his hand out. The operations officer had given him the nick name for some reason, and it didn't bother him in the least.
Shalie smoothly bent down to retrieve the dropped glass. As she stood back up she smiled at the outstreched hand before returning it. "Shalie Montgomery...but most people just call me Shalie." She turned to place the glass on the bar. "You will have to let me get you a drink...to make up for the sticky shoe." She didn't care that he had taken the responsibility, she still felt that it was her fault. "Please?"
"No Shalie, no need to get me a new drink, half the time Marines drink for free." Looking up, he raised his hand in an odd symbol to the tender, and a new drink was sliding down the table like magic. "See what I mean? We just can't take that privilege to often, or people get angry. So, what department are you in Shalie?"
"Good to know" Shalie said with a smile as she watched the exchange between Leroy and the bartender. She turned back towards the Marine with an amused look. "I am an engineer...nothing too exciting....sure doesn't get me any free drinks." She turned towards the bar and ordered a replacement drink. "That I have to rely on my looks" She added flirtatiously.
Leo chuckled a little as he looked her up and down. "I wish I could do that. I have to rely on someone who got shot because I wasn't paying attention... or looking the other way... to give me my drinks. Plus with looks like yours, I bet that every man is lining up to buy you something." As the drink slid down the bar, Leroy caught it and took a slight sip before handing it over. "Not a bad mix, what is it?"
"Tulusian sun tea...I think..." Shalie said with uncertainty in her voice as she took a sip of the new drink. "I am not much of one for drinking the same thing over and over...so I always ask the bartender for a suggestion...this was tonight." She couldn't help but let a flirty smile cross her lips as she took another sip. "And as far as the line..." She started as she look from side to side. "It is rather lacking tonight." The statement was followed by a wink.
"That's only because of me," Leroy said smiling. "I'm all the line you need really. So when are you off duty most days?"
Shalie laughed as she took another sip of her drink. "Well I am supposed to be off shift at 1600 hours but that doesn't always happen....the joy of being an Engineer." She looked him over for a second before she continued. "Why do you ask?"
Leroy smiled and sat back, looking the woman up and down. "Well, I was thinking about getting you out of that uniform, and perhaps into the holodeck for a few of our favorite things." He flushed for a second, knowing he was faltering badly, like he always had. "Sunsets, dancing, jazz, what ever you think you'd like."
Shalie allowed an elusive smile cross her lips as she listened to the Marine speak. She bit her lower lip slightly as she looked him up and down. "Well only if I get to get you out of yours. " She gently touched her finger tips to the front of his uniform before she took a sip of her drink. She turned to place her glass on the bar while she awaited his response.
"I'm not always a Marine Shalie," he said with a laugh. "And I have the next two days off. How do you feel about an actual date?"
"I feel..." Shalie started, "Like that took you long enough." She bit her lower lip slightly. "Well I have to work tomorrow but not until late...I have never found much need for sleep."
Leo chuckled and set down his drink. "So why don't we go now?"
A smiled crossed Shalie's lips. "Lead the way." was as she said in reply.
Leo smiled and stood, offering his hand. Taking hers softly in his, he pulled her close and out of Ten Forward, and down the hall to the Holodeck, wondering what she would enjoy.
