Delivering the News

[USS Calypso - Communication Center]

The console began to beep bringing Sakura's attention back to the read out. She watched the screen as information began to scroll. Her eyes moved from side to side rather quickly taking in the details of the transmission that was coming in. Sakura didn't even bother to take her attention away from the screen; she reached to the left and grabbed a PADD from a stack of PADDs. She linked the PADD to her console and pressed the Upload button.

She watched the progress bar on the main screen of her console than shifted her attention to the PADD and watched as the same message that was displaying on her screen began to fill the PADDs screen. This was one of the easier parts of her job. She had done it a few million of times it seemed that she could do it with her eyes closed. When the console beeped to signal that the information had been transferred she unlinked the PADD from the console.

Now came the hard part. The message was addressed to the commanding officer of the vessel. She took a deep breath. She was still very new and this was only her first assignment. She was nervous to meet the CO, but she knew that sooner or later she would have to do just that. So without a second thought she got up from her chair locked the console out and headed out the door.

[USS Calypso - Bridge]

The rather to the bridge was a short one and when the doors hissed that same nervous energy seemed to return to her. The bridge was so big. It was definitely intimidating. She was a lonely ensign about to knock on the door of the commanding officer. She didn't want to screw it up.


There was an officer that looked to the bridge and noticed her standing there. "Is something the matter Ensign?"

She jumped at the question and made eye contact with the officer. A nervous glance she had on her face as she motioned to the PADD. "I need to delivery this to the captain..." She managed to get out without stumbling over her own words.

"She is in her ready room." The officer responded and motioned down to where the ready room door was located.

Sakura nodded quickly and stepped of the lift. The doors hissed shut behind her and she slowly made her way down to the ready room door. She was still nervous. She felt like everyone on the bridge had their eyes on her as she approached the door and chimed it.

[USS Calypso - Ready Room]

Sam had just finished reading over the day's reports. "Come in", she said, looking up.

Sakura walked into the ready room when the doors opened. She gave a nervous smile to the woman sitting behind the desk. "I'm Ensign Sakura Miyazaki...communications officer." She said as she approached the desk, she extended her hand and the PADD towards Sam. "We have just received a message from Starfleet that a new Intel officer is on the way her via a runabout."

Sam shook her hand. "A pleasure to meet you, Ensign Miyazaki," she said, smiling. "Good to hear about Lieutenant Ralins. Keep an eye on her. I don't want her to run afoul of the mercenaries in the area."

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Commander." Sakura relaxed for a mere moment to smile at Sam. The commander wasn't as scary as she first had thought she might be. But she did quickly return to her previous expression. "I will contact the runabout immediately and inform them of the situation and let them know to proceed with caution."

"Thanks. Don't hesitate to contact me if there are any problems," she said. "I'm usually available." She smiled reassuringly. "Is there anything else I can do for you?"

"Thank you. I will keep that in mind ma'am. And no ma'am there isn't anything else..." Sakura responded as she took a step closer to the door. She understood that it was time for her to leave and return to her post.

Sam smiled at Sakura. Her eagerness to be gone was clear. "Take care," she said, watching the other girl leave.
