Hanging Out

894 words; about a 4 minute read

Mission: Peace, or Something Like It
Location: Deck 7, Gymnasium/Natatorium/Rec Room

Jerry walked into the rec room around 1605, a few minutes after he'd gotten off shift. He was in regulation training clothes - a loose and casual outfit that would allow him to do physical exercise without sweating too much - it also was enough that he could wander about the ship and not get looks. In short, a good thing to wear. The outfit reminded him of one he'd had as a teen on Risa, one of his more 'official' outfits, humorously enough. As it was, the climate of some worlds (worlds like Andoria especially) made him think twice and pack a sweater or two. The ship though, was pretty good.

He looked around, smiling at a few of the ladies there, but looking around for Hart. The two had, after all, arranged to meet here.

Doctor Hart appeared from sickbay, after he stopped to his quarters along the way. He changed into casual clothes, wearing a plain blue shirt and sweat pants. Earlier, he set the EMH to activate in sickbay, hopefully it took care of any sick patients. If it is major, the computer will notify him instead of Doctor Bowen.

Jason gave a smile as he walked further into the rec room. "Hey there," he said to Jerry. "I'm here now..."

O'Connor walked over and smiled at the Doctor, half-waving. "Hey, man. So, how'd your shift go? Anyone walk in worth talking to?"

He laughed slightly, "Well, I turned on the EMH. My shift doesn't end in a couple of hours, but I'm going to consider this to be my break...it is empty."

Jerry nodded with a smile. "Yeah, I know that feeling. Don't you just hate sitting in an empty room, staring at a wall, and for what? The possibility that someone might call? We have personal commbadges for that, and we can all get anywhere on the ship in a hurry if need be - Galaxy-class or not."

Jason laughed again. "No kidding." He looked around the rec room, "So, what is the plan here? Sports?"

Jerry shrugged lightly and smiled. "Oh, I dunno. I don't go with 'plans'."

"Ah...cool," he picked up the volleyball, seeing a sand beach to one side. There were a few ladies in swimsuits jumping to hit the ball over the net. Off to the distance, two ladies were swimming in a swimming pool. "All female here?" He shook his head.

Jerry grinned and chuckled lightly. "Well, perhaps we could fix that, Mr. Hart. Especially if we could perhaps extricate them at some point soon to more intimate surroundings."

He chuckled, "Call me Jason since I'm not on duty. I agree about the environment here..."

O'Connor nodded with a smile. "I was doing my best to be funny, Jason. But you know what? Standing around here, ain't gonna get us any closer to them. And that pool doesn't look too bad at all. You know, outside of being wet." He chuckled at his own bad joke, looking at Hart.

"I don't find it bad here, but speaking of females...I have problem of getting one to go out with me." Jason gave a slight smile as he wondered if it would be bad to ask for an advice. He usually likes to do things himself.

Jerry chuckled and nodded. "Ah, don't worry about that. They come along when the time's right. At least, they have for me. But you just gotta have some confidence and not lose hope. That's all there is to it. Oh, and something I've found? Flattery gets you everywhere, even if they act annoyed."

He nodded as he glanced at the females playing volleyball on the beach. "No kidding," he said as he looked at Jerry. "Flattery, huh?"

Jerry nodded. "That's what's worked for me, yeah."

"So, what do you have in mind for the environment?" Jason glanced at the females again and imagined if one of them was Doctor Bowen. That would be interesting...

"Oh, I have a few ideas related to the female-to-male ratio here, certainly..." He grinned while his eyes trailed over the bodies of the girls who were playing volleyball.

"Yeah. I would like...", Jason said as he was interrupted by the communicator. "Excuse me," he said as he moved away from Jerry to get some privacy. He touched his combadge. =^=Go ahead...this is Doctor Hart.=^=

=^=This is Doctor Bowen...I need you to report to my office immediately.=^=

=^=Yes, ma'am...Hart out.=^= Jason swallowed as his intuition is telling him that something is not good about the sickbay. He shook his head and walked back to Jerry. "Looks like I need to leave. Sorry for such a short stay...maybe next time?"

Jerry sighed and nodded, still trying to smile. "Sounds like a plan. But don't be surprised if you can't find me for about 6 hours."

"Ah...if I can get away from sickbay for awhile. I'll see you later, O'Connor." Doctor Hart turned and left the room, feeling a regret to leave. He was not looking forward to face his boss, that is, Doctor Bowen. Women should not be in charge, he thought, if she or the Captain heard this, they will skin my hyde.
