For most Ensigns, their first assignment after graduation was a momentous and overwhelming experience, and the bigger the ship the more overwhelming. For most Ensigns anyway...

This wasn't to say the experience for the young man that was entering sickbay wasn't overwhelming, it was. However at that particular moment he was more concerned with getting a medical matter cleared before anything else.

Although he could appreciate that his experimental endo/exoskeleton was doing wonders for his mobility in this high-gravity environment, Ensign Tychu Seylvin still felt like a walking Agar dish at times like this rather than a newly minted ensign. His supervisor had either read up on his personality profile or had dealt with Elaysians before, because he hadn't asked him a billion times over if he needed anything due to his special condition.

Still, Tychu could honestly say that he wouldn't have gotten as far as he had to that point with a little help, and at that moment, the least he could do was to give his frame a fair trial and accurate feedback.
Entering sickbay he respectfully stood at parade rest by the door and looked around. There was plenty of hustle and bustle going on, so instead of making himself too obvious he opted to simply state his presence and wait patiently, hard as that was for him sometimes.
"Hello? Ensign Tychu Seylvin reporting as required. If this is a bad time I'll just come back later."

Doctor Bowen arrived an hour ago and it is still morning. She was not happy that Doctor Hart activated the EMH and left sickbay because it was empty. She wondered if he left earlier than the end of his shift. Leanne came out of the laboratory as she is trying to figure out what is wrong with Nurse Tarango. She diagnosed her with a regular flu, but her scanner is not telling her more, and the medication is not helping at all. Just as she came out of the room, she found an Elaysian standing there by the door. She went up to him, "Can I help you?"

Ever the model ensign Tychu responded as formally as he could.
"Ensign Tychu Seyvlin ma'am. Reporting here for a special examination of my bio-electric skeletal support system as requested by Dr. Lowell Sevitz of Starfleet Medical on Earth...."

Tychu stopped for a moment, he was giving out way too much information that was all over the place, so he simply re-started.
"I'm here for a special medical exam because of my prosthesis ma'am. It's an experimental unit designed by Dr. Lowell Sevitz, and he indicated that he would send along special instructions ahead of me since he wants feedback from both a personal and medical standpoint.

"Aw, I see. I believe I have the information from Dr. Lowell Sevitz," she said as she glanced at the PADD in her hands. "Have a seat and I'll take a look at your framework." She took the scans, waiting for a minute until it beeped.

Tychu rolled his shoulders a little bit, shrugging off a bit of an ache that was caused either by a bad circuit along one of the sections in his back or just from the constant meetings and check-ins.
"I apologize ma'am, I'm sure you have better and more important things to do than gather readings for some doctor far away at Starfleet Medical, just wanted to get this out of the way before we departed."

Leanne put the tricorder down and inspected the endo-exoskeleton. "That's okay. I am not quite familiar, but is there something that is bothering you right now?"

Tychu was hesitant to complain, but if he was honest his shoulders were just beyond the mild ache spectrum of pain. He was in sickbay so there was no logical reason not to ask about it.
"Well ma'am, to be honest my shoulders have been hurting all day and its steadily been getting worse, but you're on your own here and probably busy, it can wait."

"No, we should take care of it before it becomes a bigger problem." Leanne inspected the shoulder area before she made some adjustment to his endo-exoskeleton. After a minute, she asked, "Now, how is that?"

Something had been adjusted in the system, but it wasn't the right way, because Tychu's jaw was suddenly clenched and his upper body frozen. However he could still manage to mumble.
'Noht sat uhay! Tat tosint urk!"

Her eyes widen. "Hmm. That doesn't sound right." Leanne did another adjustment with ease. "How is that?"

Tychu suddenly gasped and breathed hard for a moment. He had about a million things run through his head that he wanted to say to Leanne and very few of which were nice, but he quickly set those aside. She was still learning this system just as he was still getting used to it despite living with it, and there were still bugs to be worked out.
"Well that sudden lockdown is gone but that ache is still there ma'am, maybe the diode two vertebrae up is the one that is causing that interference?"

The doctor looked at his backside, "I think I see the problem like you said." She made the adjustment on the diode. "Is this better?"

"Yes, thank you, thanks so much. I know Doc Sevitz can be hard to understand in person so I can only imagine just how incomprehensible his notes may be, so thank you again."

He suddenly adopted his own inquisitive look, nodding his head over to the left as if he was almost scrutinizing Leanne.
"You've never seen one of my kind before have you?"

"Only one when I was a medical intern on USS McCoy, but I have never treated one before...."

Tychus head nodded from side to side for a moment before he finally gave in
"I can't say that I'm familiar with that individual, although to be fair my kind is getting off-planet more frequently more and more. At first you could count the number of Elaysian in starfleet on one hand, but we're getting bolder, less afraid of high gravity I suppose."

"I can't blame you there. Somebody's got to get out and explore things outside their territory...to discover new worlds and new civilizations. It's a bold step for your type of race to do that," she said with a smile.

Despite his trained formality Tychu couldn't help but snort a little and roll his eyes.
"That's easy enough for you to say, your species doesn't get wracked with pain and immobility or find it hard to breathe in gravity that seemingly every other species has no problem negotiating. Almost all of us are regulated to support roles, even fewer are on starships that go further than the inner colonies or rims, the Marines flat out reject my kind..."

Tychu paused and realized he was going into rant mode again. As frail as Elaysians could appear physically, most of the ones in starfleet had gained a reputation for being nearly as stubborn and opinionated as their Bajoran counterparts. Clearing his throat he simply said.
"My apologies ma'am, I didn't mean to launch into that stand on the proverbial human soapbox."

"Not a problem, Ensign. Everybody has their own complaints, but would it help if you talk to a counselor? If not, I understand." She put away the instruments on a nearby tray and crossed her arms.

Tychu was a little taken aback but understood why a defensive posture had been taken. He wasn't one to argue with doctors, especially since they had given him such a gift, but some things were just inherent, though he tried to keep an open mind about it.
"If you think it might help I will go doctor, but to be honest those of us who go off world have to be stubborn and opinionated, it's what carries us through when things get especially difficult."

She nodded her head. "It's up to you to decide if it bothers you a lot. I am just throwing in a suggestion. We have a good counselor...her name is Erin Tal and she is not human. Well, I think I have done what I can for you today. Any questions or concerns you might have?"

Tychu hopped off of the bio bed and gave his shoulders a few experimental movements. Satisfied with the range of motion and the lack of pain, or at least the lesser amount, he simply shook his head.
"Nope, everything seems sorted out pretty well doctor. Thanks for checking up on me on such short notice and with little or no idea of what was going on."

"Not a problem, feel free to come back to see me if something else goes wrong. Have a good day, Ensign."

Tychu gave Leanne a smile and a nod before turning and heaving for the hatch. He had been nervous coming into sickbay that she would not completely understand the intricacies of his situation, but the Doctor had certainly won his confidence to say the least.

Leanne watched him leave and she turned to get back to doing medical supplies. Sometime, she is going to sit down and study his physiology. Her xenobiology class at the academy did not include his, so this is a first for her. She did expect things that might go beyond her understanding and her job is to keep up with the knowledge of species' anatomy, while they are part of the ship.
