Mission: Transitions
Location: Marine Country

Karma stepped off the lift and looked around. He'd never been to this part of the ship and he felt it was long overdue. He looked around the area as he walked and felt a little disappointed. It looked no different than any other corridor on the ship. He could hear the Marines barking orders at each other and that was about the only thing that distinguished the area as 'Marine Country'.

He paused to watch a Marine yelling at another that was doing push-ups and smiled. He shook his head and continued walking. A moment later he found the door he was looking for and pressed the chime.

Damon finished putting the final touches on next week's duty rotation for the platoons. He was having 3rd platoon from Charlie and 2nd platoon from Delta on deck and restricted to PT whereas the remaining platoons would be engaged in a number of training scenario's. He was thinking of altering the schedule to have Charlie's 1st skirmish against the 1st and 3rd platoons of Delta for bragging rights, when the chime sounded at his office door.

He put the black marker down on the tray of the whiteboard and called out. "Enter."

Karma stepped into the office and smiled as he looked around. The office was more like what he was expecting from the Marines. "Am I interrupting something?" he asked.

"Not at all." Damon said with a smile on his face. He walked a few paces over to the man and offered his hand. "I don't think we have actually had the chance to 'officially' meet, save of course working together on an away mission."

Karma nodded and shook the man's hand. "Lieutenant Karma Sinclair," he said. "I figured now would be a good time to get to know each other better since we'll more than likely be working closely together."

Damon smiled at the comment "You will have to forgive me, but when an intelligence officer tells me that we will be 'working closely together' my feathers tend to ruffle." His expression showed that he was kidding...mostly.

"This may come as a shock," Karma replied, looking at him, "but I get that a lot."

"I might imagine so, you spooks get somewhat of a bad rep."

"I'd like to change that if possible," Karma replied. "Anyway, how are things going in your department?"

"Smoothly." Damon said as he glanced over to the whiteboard again. "I keep the Marines active so they stay combat functional. Most of our ordinance has already been transferred on to the ship, so you can expect us to be well armed and sharp should the need come. Other then that, they know I will come down hard on them should they disrupt the peace on the ship. None of the normal Marine/Fleeter issues have flared up and I don't expect to see any. On our end, anyways."

Karma looked at him and smiled. "I wish I could say the same about my department. We use our own set of encryption algorithms in the Vault that are kept separate from the rest of the ship for security reasons. This ship apparently doesn't like that and we're having all kinds of problems with it."

"I would offer my assistance in solving the problem, except that my technological prowess in encryption limits me to using a TR to fix it."

"We have qualified techs from the base going over the system," Karma replied. "It's just a pain having to wait to get things set up properly." He paused and looked around the room again. "Is there anything you need from me at the moment? I can use the equipment on the base if necessary."

"Actually, there is. Though it isn't more equipment." Damon looked down to the matte finished watch on his wrist and grinned. "A drinking buddy. Every day after the shift ends I head out for a drink, old tradition from the war. I still do it onboard except I go alone now. Seems there is a rumour going around that I eat Marines for breakfast, something like that anyways."

"And you think hanging out with a spook will improve your reputation?" Karma asked with a laugh.

"Not likely." Damon said returning the laugh "Though I'm sure even if I was drinking with the chief medical officer some Marines would assume it's because I want to learn how to best dissect them. People will find reasons for everything if they look for them. Personally, I'm just looking for someone to chat with over a brew."

"I'd be more than happy to," Karma said with a nod. "It's always good to have someone to talk to after a long day. Just let me know when and I'll be there."

Damon nodded. "I'll give you a call when my shift is done. The lounge starts to fill up early, gotta be quick if we want a spot at the bar."

Karma nodded and stood up. "If there's nothing else I should get going. I still have a lot of work to do in the Vault."

"Understood. Thanks for the visit." Damon stood up and shook the man's hand again.

Karma nodded again and left the office, heading for the Vault and not looking forward to it.
