Damon moved back a pace in the water with a confused look on his face. "Is this your way of saying there is another man?" He let her know he was joking by the slight lift at the corner of his mouth.
[NEW]
Sam splashed him with water. "You are the only man in my life that isn't related to me," she told him with mock severity. "And you know it." Then, not being able to keep the stern expression she grinned. "It's well deserved, Major."
The Marine looked almost dumbstruck for a moment as he considered her words. "Wow" he said simply. "I didn't expect that to come through so quickly."
"All I had to do was show them that you were long-overdue for your last promotion and that you more than earned this one," Sam assured him. "They agreed with me."
He looked back at her and tipped his head to the side. "I hardly think you have an un-biased opinion on the matter."
"Well, I may be a little biased," she admitted, grinning, "but they still agreed with me, so that counts." She headed for the side of the pool. "Do you want a tour of the new arboretum? It's a lot like the old one, only bigger."
"Absolutely!" He said after shaking the thought of the promotion out of his head. He was glad for the distraction.
Damon quickly swam off to the side of the pool and left the water behind him. As he didn't have a towel, he used his shirt to partially dry himself off before throwing it back to the pack that was resting on the grass.
"After you, love." he said to Samantha as he walked over to where she stood.
She smiled and took his hand. Together they walked around the perimeter of the upper level where flower gardens were dotted with benches and quiet alcoves. She led him to the spot behind the waterfall on the upper level where they could look out from behind the waterfall onto the main section of the arboretum.
Before they left, she wrapped her arms around Damon's neck. "There's one thing I've always wanted to do back here," she said before reaching up and kissing him.
Damon smiled as he pulled her closer into the embrace. His hand ran slowly down her back as he held her. "I sure hope you didn't take my advice for installing camera's back here." He said before kissing her again.
~No cameras,~ Sam assured him. There were times, like this, when it was preferable to use telepathy. While she kissed him back, one hand tangled in his hair while the other caressed his shoulder. ~I love you.~ She allowed her mind to open so she could let him feel the truth of her words. She'd never cared about someone enough to share herself mentally and emotionally. Until now.
Damon smiled through the kiss. It was always a unique experience to "hear" someone's thoughts inside his head, but this time it felt different. The words were clear in his mind, but this time there was what could be described as background noise that came through as well. The "noise" felt warm and comforting, a feeling he couldn't possibly equate with anything he had experienced before. In this moment he felt completely surrounded by her.
Damon wanted to convey how much he adored her, but it just seemed like words wouldn't be adequate for how he felt.
Sam leaned back and looked Damon in the eye. "It's okay, love. I understand."
Damon sighed as he continued to smile. "Good." he said simply before giving her another lingering kiss. After a moment he finished, "Because I don't know where to begin."
"Begin with what?"
"Of how much you mean to me." Damon was never really sure how much she was reading off him at any given moment.
Sam smiled lovingly. "Good. That way it will take a very long time. Porque eres mi vida." She placed her hand over his heart. "Because you are my life."
