724 words; about a 4 minute read

Mission: Transitions
Location: Various Corridor, Sickbay
Timeline: Current

Kalyka was kneeling in front of a gelpack. Scans had shown that it was infected, but nothing had shown that it was leaking. She decided to follow proper procedure and put it in a biohazard bag. It was time to clean it up, but she needed the right materials. Beaming to Sickbay, she gave the gelpack to a nurse to dispose of and then, after going through detox, went to clean up the mess. It took three hours. She didn't like it at all because it smelled. Finally, she was done.

Beaming back to the Sickbay, she found herself face to face with the CMO.

"Well, what's the verdict on the connection to the replicator? I had to go down to the lounge to get a cup of coffee because I'm afraid to use my office replicator...", Leanne said as she looked at the thing in the wall, noted that it was cleaned up with no black marks on it.

Kalyka smiled a little. "Can I go to HazMat first? I just cleaned up some infected gel from a gelpack. Then I will get started on your replicator."

"Sure," she said as she picked up her unfinished work on her desk. "Do you need me here?"

Kalyka hesitated. "I'm unsure yet. I may have to be checked for any viruses. That gel got on my hands and I don't want to be sick over this." She recycled the materials in hazmat and went through the cleaner, getting into a jumpsuit while her uniform was cleaned and her tools. After a few minutes it was done. Changing back, she stopped in front of the doctor. "Where is the replicator? In your office?"

"Right behind me. When you get done, I can check you physically for any viruses," Leanne said before she looked down at her PADD.

Kalyka looked at her warily. "I could be contaminating the people around me at this moment. Fixing anything before I'm checked is against several regulations and for good reason. Especially if I'm going to be handling anything with gelpacks."

"Yes, you are right...what was I thinking?" She stood up immediately. "I have been so busy trying to save my co-worker and my mind is running thousand meters. Don't get any closer to me...there is a biohazard room to the far end of sickbay where you can remove your clothing. It has a sonic shower that decontaminates..."

Kalyka raised an eyebrow. "I just went through that. I am next supposed to have my own internal system checked and my skin for anything that the sonic shower may have missed." She felt odd telling a doctor about medical procedures, but she had done this enough times to know how it went.

"Alright," she picked up her tricorder and did a scan on her. "You are free from any radiation or viruses." Leanne went back to her desk, sets the instrument down on it, and sat down. "Go ahead and do what you need to do."

Kalyka nodded her thanks and set to work. Opening the panel, she looked inside. A blown power conduit. Turning off the power to the that conduit, she took it out and replaced it. She turned the power back on. Nothing happened. She turned the power off, replaced the relays, and turned it on again. This time it turned on. Smiling to herself, she replaced the panel and stood up.

"Darjeeling tea with honey." The air shimmered as a cup of tea came into existence. She took the hot, steaming tea and took a sip, nodding. "Excellent." Meral leaned against the wall and finished her tea before reclamating her cup. She picked up her toolkit and smiled at Bowen. "Your replicator is fixed now, Doctor. If there's nothing else..." She trailed off in case there was.

"Wonderful...that's all I need. Thank you, Lieutenant," the doctor said as she watched her taking the last sip of the drink and replacing the cup. "Hopefully there won't be anymore problems," she said as she put her eyes to the paperwork again. "I'll call if there is anything else." Leanne didn't bother to watch to head for the door to leave her office.

Kalyka walked out, heading back to engineering.
