Sam smiled lovingly. "Good. That way it will take a very long time. Porque eres mi vida." She placed her hand over his heart. "Because you are my life."
[NEW]
She took his hand and led him out from behind the waterfall and down the stairs. She pointed out some of the trees and bushes on the main floor, ending back at the waterfall. "Lizzie did a great job in a short period of time. I'm kind of sorry I don't have direct control over it any more. Now I'll have to find excuses to slip down here."
"Well," Damon thought for a moment "I can start taking shifts on the bridge if it will mean you get a chance to relax down here for a while between rotations."
Sam was touched at his offer. "I'll keep that in mind. It might be a good idea just to get you familiar with the bridge routine in case I need you. But, to be honest, if you're going to be on the bridge, I'd rather be there with you." Although that was selfish of her. She just wanted to spend as much time as she could with him. They didn't get to see each other as often as she liked as it was.
Damon grinned and squeezed her hand, understanding her tone. "Don't trust me with the ship yet, huh?"
Chuckling, Sam wrapped her arms around his neck. "I trust you with my life. I can trust you with my ship." She kissed him briefly. "I need to feed my addiction."
Damon laughed lightly before hugging her close to his body "I'm reasonably sure we won't get away with doing this on the bridge. It might distract the helmsman."
"It would distract more than the helmsman," she said, laughing. "It'll give me a chance to prove I love you for more than just your body," she teased, hugging him back. She did like the way it felt to be held by him.
Damon enjoyed the comfortable feeling from holding the woman he loved in his arms, something he didn't think he would experience in his time. With this in mind, his thoughts turned to something else he didn't expect to see in his lifetime.
"Say I do start taking duties on the bridge, how do you think the crew is going to adjust to taking orders from a Marine? I know there is a fair amount of bad blood between branches and although the Orion hadn't experienced problems because of it, the possibility lies that this could become a real issue if it's pushed through."
Sam lay her head on his shoulder while she considered his question. She didn't think she'd ever grow tired of being held by Damon. He filled up all the empty places in her heart she didn't know were there before. "I think they'll accept a Marine as well as they accepted a science officer. I was second officer. For whatever reason Captain Montgomery and Starfleet decided I was the best choice to take over the ship. If they accepted me, they'll accept you. You're a great leader and the man I trust most on the ship. The crew will pick up on that."
Damon tipped his head down and kissed the top of hers. "You forget, love, you are still a Starfleet officer. They accept you because you were endorsed by the Admiralty AND still in the Starfleet chain of command. The SFMC has no bearing on their ranks, our orders carry no weight behind them. The last thing I want to do is cause you more work because of someone refusing to accept my command."
"Starfleet didn't say a word when I made you second officer. If they had a problem with it, I would have heard something." She leaned back to look him in the eye. "I feel better knowing I have you to rely on if I need anything, my love. If it becomes a problem, we'll talk then. Now, I like the having you as my second officer."
"You have me." He said as he moved a few loose strands of hair away from her face. "For whatever you need."
"Dangerous words, my dearest," she teased, the expression in her eyes softening. "Because I need you in far too many ways to list." She kissed him gently as she once again made telepathic contact with him. To express with more than words how she felt.
Damon once again felt enveloped by her as he held her in his arms. He was intoxicated by everything about her, a feeling that left his head spinning. In this moment he couldn't help but feel like meeting her was fate, how else could he explain the way the pieces of his life suddenly felt like they were falling into place.
Damon at that moment vowed in his heart to never let her down. He would be the man he needed to be so that he could always be there for her. Semper Fidelis suddenly had a whole new meaning to it.
She could feel Damon's love flowing through the bond between them. Damon had become the center of her universe. She wanted nothing more than to spend forever with him. Her heart overflowed with the strength of her love ~All that I am is yours, Imzadi,~ she vowed as she leaned closer. It was the first time she'd ever felt the emotional, physical and mental bond.
Sam knew that Damon was out of his comfort zone. They'd talked about his career and how he didn't want to commit to anyone. Now she was so grateful he'd changed his mind. Sam deepened the kiss and vowed that she would do everything in her power to be there for him, to never make him regret being with her. ~Te amo, mi alma.~ She let go of her mental shields and her emotions take control.
Damon willingly accepted her into his arms finally knowing what it was like to truly be lost in someone. A phrase that stuck in his mind from his earlier glances at the Spanish language suddenly came to mind; ~mi alma gemela~. He didn't know how much she could read off him, but he hoped she could pick out that phrase.
The bond was such that she heard him and understood. ~Siempre juntos.~ Sam was glad she'd unrolled her bedroll earlier. She wanted everything with Damon. Marriage. A family. A lifetime. But for now, she broke the kiss and took him by the hand, leading him into the semi-darkness of the fern grove where her bed awaited them.
