"York to Bowen. I think I broke my leg."
"Where are you, Captain?" Leanne said over her combadge.
"Holodeck 3. Safeties failed. I can't do an emergency beam-out, either," Sam replied. There was definitely something squirrely going on with the holodeck.
"I'll be right over!" Leanne grabbed her medikit and rushed out the door. She got onto the turbolift to get to the deck that the holodeck is located. After the doors opened, she took off running as the corridor was empty and entered the holodeck.
The doctor swallowed as she stared at a thick forest and the temperature was nearly hot and sticky. The sky appeared to be blocked from many tree branches. She wondered what the Captain was doing in this kind of environment...training? Whatever the situation was, Leanne walked carefully on a dirt path and using her arms to push the giant leaves out of her way. "Captain?" She slightly said with a raised voice. She hopes that there aren't any enemies or monsters that might jump out in front of her. She patted her waist to discovered that she isn't carrying a phaser for protection. Maybe I can swing this hard medikit to someone's skull as a weapon, she thought as she continued to follow the path.
~I'm over here, by the cliff on your left,~ Sam told her telepathically. It was much easier than calling out. Besides, her leg was starting to throb and she didn't want to put forth the effort to yell.
She couldn't believe she could hear her thoughts as she kept moving through the thick forest till it ended near a cliff. Leanne looked to her left and found the Captain on the ground. She rushed over to inspect her leg, "What happened?" She pulled out the tricorder from her belt and opened it to do scans, finding the Tibia bone broken in half and some damage tissues around it. The wound was opened and bleeding.
"I was rock climbing. The rope broke and the safeties failed," Sam explained. "I tried to freeze the program and that failed, too. After I broke my leg, I attempted an emergency beam out." Sam paused for a moment to let a stab of pain ease. "As you can see, it didn't work," she added wryly. "Sorry for the hassle."
"Not a problem, Captain. At least it is something I can do than sit in sickbay doing paperwork, double checking our supplies over and over with a feeling of boredom." Leanne pulled out a ostea regenerator out of her medikit and turned it on to let it heal the bone. "When I came in here, I was afraid it was some kind of war scenario like shooting aliens. Rock climbing sounds like your type of exercise", she turned the instrument off and put it back into her kit. "Looks like you need to rest this leg for today."
"Thank you, doctor," Sam said gratefully. "I really appreciate it." She moved her leg a little to test it. "I love rock climbing, but haven't had much chance to do it lately. I thought it would be fun. I didn't expect a holo hiccup." She chuckled. "At least it was just a leg. I promise to take it easy today. I'll read a book. A nice, safe activity."
"Good...your welcome. Please do take it easy," the doctor said as she stood up with the medikit in her hand. She glanced up the rock cliff before she looked at the Captain, "That sure is pretty high to climb. Well, do rest today. I better get back to sickbay before someone shows up injured or sick."
Sam smiled and nodded as the doctor left the holodeck. Even though it was all part of the program, she set her ropes in a neat pile along with her harness and other equipment. "Computer, end program," she said, hoping it would work this time. The computer beeped, but nothing happened. "Okay, computer, leave the program running for as long as you like. You can enjoy the view." Again the computer beeped, but this time the program shut down. With a sigh that was half chuckle and half exasperation, she walked out of the room.
