Kate the Cursed grabbed the rope prepared for her and swung across the bow of her pirate ship and onto the merchant ship they'd come alongside. Her sword clenched tightly in her other hand. She landed a meter from her target. With a feral grin she lunged at the sailor, slicing cleanly through his chest.

Kate laughed as he dropped to the deck, then turned to the next sailor. "Surrender or die," she told him, laughing at the look of shock on his face. He turned to face her and raised his sword defiantly. Kate didn't like killing, but she knew that it was she or her crew that would die if she didn't.

Parry, thrust, thrust, turn, thrust, parry. It was like a dance, really. In fact, Kate often treated it as such. It made her a better fighter. Although most of the people she fought were sailors with only a basic knowledge of swordsmanship. If she were to face a true master she might be in trouble.

It was a well-kept secret that Kate used music and dance to train her pirates. She would usually make them practice to a lively Tarantella or an upbeat overture. It helped. Her favorite piece at the moment was He's a Pirate by Klaus Badelt. The Sea Hawk by Eric Wolfgang Korngold worked as well.

The music from Badelt's score ran through her head as she fought off one sailor after another. Kate preferred taking prisoners, which she would leave on a nearby island with enough provisions to keep them until they could flag a passing ship. Unfortunately, this crew didn't want to surrender.

The crew of the Black Pearl quickly gained the advantage. Soon, the merchant ship would be theirs. Kate pushed one of the sailors over the side of the ship, grabbed a rope for support and jumped onto the railing. Turning to face the crew of the merchant ship, she shouted, "Surrender or die! This is your last chance!"

Suddenly, a large vole-like creature jumped onto the railing of the ship and raced across the deck, biting three pirates and a sailor as it went. Then it jumped off the other side of the ship, landing in the water with a large splash.

"Computer, end program!" She shouted. Sword in hand she looked around the holodeck for the pesky ghezun. She wasn't' quite sue if she wanted to laugh or attack the creature. Either way, there was no way she could finish the program. She began to laugh as she thought of the thing attacking as it raced across the deck. If she could train it to follow her orders, it could be a formidable distraction.

The ghezun stopped in the corner of the room and looked at Sam for a moment. "Yes, I'm crazy. Now, run away before I change my mind and call security to take care of you," she said. As if it understood, the ghezun slipped through a tiny opening in the wall and disappeared.

Sam shook her head. Well, it was one way to end the encounter. Maybe next time she'd create an island adventure full of giant rats...
