Gunnery Sergeant Hawkes pushed through the door into the Marine Squad Bay, wearing a t-shirt with his fatigues, his rank not visible. "Alright, ladies and gentleman, welcome to Jupiter Station. This will be your home for the next couple of weeks before we board the Orion for parts unknown." Hawkes had the attention of every Marine in the squad bay and they all smiled at his friendly manner.
"OK, enough of the pleasant crap, get your butts into (PT) Physical Training attire, parade ground - 5 minutes, MOVE." He hollered, the Marines stood dumbfounded at the sudden change of tact.
"Four minutes. GO" He bellowed as he made his way to the parade ground.
6 minutes later, Jupiter Station Marine Parade Ground
"You lot are arguably the slowest excuse for Marines, I have ever seen. My grandmother could move faster than you." Hawkes roared after the combined Infantry/Engineer Unit had finally formed up on the parade ground.
"A few of you know me, those unlucky enough to have me as a DI (Drill Instructor) at Parris Island. Those of you who don't know me, I am Gunnery Sergeant Hawkes. I am your new First Sergeant."
"This is a unique opportunity for 2 normally separate entities to work alot closer together. The 2 companies of Artificers will be integrated into the Infantry and YOU WILL learn to work together." Hawkes smiled at the thought of the Infantry integrated with the engineers, something unheard of within the hard line Marine Corps.
After allowing the frustrated grumbles to die down, Hawkes' next command left them all groaning. "Company, right face. Company by the right, Quick March. Company, Double Time." Hawkes then led the unit on a 15 mile run around Jupiter Station. They had only just left the parade ground when Bella came running through the ranks to take her place beside Hawkes.
