"We're all set here," Sam told Kaj. "Launch when ready."

[NEW[

Kaj confirmed before initiating liftoff sequences, a process that involved a rapid flourish of button pushing and chatter back and forth with Vital. In short order the Firefly lurched off of the deck then hovered forward, slowly but surely gaining momentum.
The Firefly transport quickly cleared the main shuttlebay, then turned towards the planet, heading towards the marked coordinates.

Lizzie sat quietly in her seat. She had no idea why she, a botanist, was going to a desert planet, but she was looking forward to it anyway.

Kaj had Christian take over the controls for a moment, then came back on over the comms.
"We're on our way folks, and I figured we should have some breakaway music. Old Earth tradition. So sit back and enjoy the sweet sounds of Stevie Ray Vaughn."

As promised, Kaj tapped a few more buttons, and those in the back were greeted with the opening strain of Stevie Ray Vaughn's interpretation of "Voodoo Chile", which had been timed perfectly (but unintentionally) to match the opening breakdown with the slight judder of the Firefly hitting the upper atmosphere of Tiberius IV

Damon couldn't help but smile. The music reminded him of when he was just a Corporal. The Company he was assigned to during the Dominion War had a "theme song" they used to play out in the drop ships when they were about to enter a hot zone. Usually it was played so loud inside the drop ships that the Marines could barely hear the weapons fire and mortars over the music as they touched down. 'Welcome to the Jungle' became a banner which the company fought to. The smile on Damon's face faded quickly; since the war ended he couldn't listen to the song anymore.

Sam saw the expression on Damon's face change and slipped her hand over his and squeezed it gently. "Are you okay?"

He looked over to her and forced a smile. "Yeah, I'm fine. Music like this reminds me of the old days." He spun his hand around and squeezed her hand back in thanks.

"I'm sorry," she replied quietly. "I'm here, if there's anything I can do..."

Kaj hit the intercom one last time, almost after another shake in the dropship.
"Touchdown is in 20 minutes but stay strapped in until then, lots of turbulence all the way down to the landing site."

No sooner had Kaj tapped the comm panel than Christian looked at him.
"Turbulence? That's putting it lightly. Just checked the readings and they make no sense. Here look for yourself."

Kaj looked at the readings. He was no ops officer but even he could tell something was amiss, but it would have to wait.
"We'll tell them before we drop them in, right now lets keep this thing under control."
