Mission: Eye of the Storm
Location: Conference Room

ON

Both away teams were back on the ship and it was time to share what they'd learned and discuss their next step: dealing with the Remen on the far side of the planet.

Sam had been closely monitoring activity, but she wasn't sure how much the rest of her senior staff knew. She was all for negotiation, if it worked, but if it didn't, they needed a good backup plan.

She set out a tray with fruit and crackers and waited for the others to arrive.

Stomping in to the room with his farmer's swagger, Aenar spotted the tray of fruit and crackers, and helped himself liberally to the fruit. The crackers he always thought of as being dry and bland. A peculiar human food.

He waved at the Commodore, 'fine fare again, Ma'am.'

Sam had noticed what he chose and smiled. "I'll try to have a better variety next time."

Bela was full of smiles as she walked into the conference room. Exuding her enthusiasm, she immediately approached the Commodore and gave her a warm hug, brushing her hand slightly back and forth comfortingly against the top of Sam's back before breaking the hug. "You've got this," she told Sam before noticing Aenar.

She walked over to the Bajoran and gave him a quick hug. "Good to see you again, Aenar."

Comfortably returning the hug, Aenar waited the appropriate amount of time before pulling back to arm's length and smiled, 'you too Bela.'

"Thank you, Aenar. I'm looking forward to hearing your report." She then looked from Aenar to the Commodore and asked, "Where is everyone else? Nobody is hurt, are they? Just running late?"

Kara and Jayna arrived together. Kara took the first available seat, but Jayna found one where she could see the room and the door at the same time.

"No. No one is hurt. We've been fortunate so far." Sam smiled at the counselor. "The others should be here shortly."

"Still, I may have to work with our crew on organization skills," Bela responded thoughtfully. "Perhaps associating timeliness with a good feeling will assist," she mused aloud.

"It couldn't hurt." Sam hoped the counselor could gently encourage some to be on time. Although she knew others had a good reason for being late. This time.

Munich came through the doorway with a tablet in hand.

"Sorry for delay..." His strong German heritage in his speech. "Dere vaz some things I had to I had to collate before coming, the Automation in the Lower Levels was quite a piece of engineering from a communications standpoint."

"What else did you find?" Sam asked.

"It was discovered that dere vaz a type of lightning rod communication antenna type set up that was the targeting system for the artificial ion storm generator to have precise impact. " He said in a strong German accent. "It was also connected to the Moon Installation to monitor communications. Shan and I have shut it down and assure it could not be used again in that fashion."

"What did you find in the lunar facility?" Sam asked.

'Remans and a relay that communicated with the surface,' Aenar replied simply. 'Unfortunately their databanks didn't hold any clues as to who or what they were communicating with on the surface.' He looked to the surface team, 'I heard you picked up a couple of colonists there?'

Jayna nodded. "They beamed up with Commander Munich. Intel is working with them. We should have more information on that before long. Also, while the lunar facility gave no indication as to who was responsible, Lieutenant Batiste and his team are going through the data to see if there's anything we can use."

The commodore nodded. "We have one other matter to discuss and that is a Remen facility on the far side of the planet. It appears to be military in nature and has upwards of 20,000 personnel plus half a dozen ships."

"So much?" Bela asked with a gasp, her hand visibly coming over to her chest. "Surely we cannot deal with all of them on our own."

"No, we can't," Sam said. "But I don't believe it will be necessary. What few ships they do have are not equipped to go against a capital ship. I expect most will agree to leave peacefully or surrender." She was not opposed to fighting, but she was going to do her best to avoid it. From what she knew, it was apparent that the Remen were here to attack the colony and hadn't expected much--if any--resistance.

Bela scrutinized Sam. Was she bluffing? Was it bravado? Was she just confident? The Risian counselor said nothing because she did not want to harm the morale of the ship, but she would make a point to talk to the Commodore after the meeting.

The counselor's thoughts were a bit too intense to ignore, but Sam knew that if she wanted to ask her questions later, Bela knew where to find her. She looked around the table. "For now, I want as much information as we can get on the Remen. Now that the storm is dwindling, I hope to hear back from Starfleet as well. Is there anything else?"

The Counselor looked around the table, trying to get a sense of everyone's state of mind after this news.

No one had anything to add. Sam nodded. "Very well. We'll meet back here in 24 hours. Dismissed."
