Mission: Eye of the Storm
[PREVIOUSLY]
Logan brought up the schematic and plans. The device was labeled Quantum Beacon and any information regarding the date it was discovered, where it came from, and when it was placed into the database was all removed leaving several blanked out spaces. What was there identified it as device that acted as a sensor that was positron based and two hundred gigawatts of output. The subassembly tolerances were isolated from the emitter algorithms, which was made possible by generating a stable flux between the positronic conductors and renormalizing the tertiary wave functions. It was listed as successful on several occasions, but those dates were no shown, but it also noted several attempts on modernized Romulan cloaking technology was unsuccessful. Which only emphasized why, earlier, Logan suggested modifying it would be the best option.

Tuff hummed thoughtfully, intaking the new information. "That would imply that there is a nullifier core somewhere, as well. A tachyon detection grid or a search for plasma discharges might reveal cloaked ships but it may be more difficult if it is a cloaked entity as the detection grid relies upon movement."
"There is a method to detect something cloaked that proved effected against a Romulan cloaking device before." Logan looked over to Remy, who gave him a cautious look, before he returned his gaze to Tuff as he continued. "There is a device that was used which was able to reveal cloaked mines utilizing the Romulan cloaking method. It came from a-" He was cut off by Remy clearing his throat. The Caitian took a moment then continued. "It came from an unconventional source. We can either construct it here or modify the sensors to do the same. Given what we know of modern cloaking devices we could modify it slightly."
"The point being, Ensign." Remy added firmly. "As long as you don't ask where it came from we can share this method, you and Lieutenant Torek, can make whatever adjustments you need. Lieutenant Mira and Mister Logan would happily assist."
Aenar cocked his head as he thought about what Logan said, then nodded slowly as they worked through the issue, 'it's a distinct possibility. I've not heard it in the literature, but black holes, artificial or no, produce exotic anomalies. Entirely plausible.' He leaned in quickly so that his earring jangled slightly, 'now, this cloaking device nullifier. Shall we get to work on it?'
Tuff wondered at the unconventional source and wondered how it could be trustworthy. For now, he reserved judgment and said, "I would be interested in the process. I am also curious as to why I cannot ask from where it came but at this moment, I do not think that is as important as the result."
"From what I saw on the planet, and from the data so far, the ion storms are the focus, not the byproduct," Jayna said. "I think the storms are being used as a weapon. That fits in with the data we have so far."
"That was my initial thought," Tuff agreed. "However, what Lieutenant Batiste has theorized also has merit." He paused thoughtfully. "We should test both theories. Ruling out anything may lead us down a faulty path."
"I'm sure Jayna is probably right." Logan said as soon as he was able. Tossing away his theory, assuming it was a stupid one from the get go, regardless of whether the others considered it. "It was just a dumb theory anyway." He crossed his arms over his large chest.
"There is no such thing as a dumb theory," Tuff told Logan. "Everything should be considered. If we rush to accept on theory as true, we may completely miss the solution because we wandered down the incorrect path."
"Until we see what's behind the encryption, anything is possible," Jayna added. "All your theories have merit." She finished setting up the proper shielding to examine the data. "I'm ready to begin."
She turned to Remy as the head of intel. "Do you want to do it or shall I?"
"By all means, Lieutenant." Remy replied smiling a bit. "You've earned the led on this venture. It's yours. Mister Logan and I will bring up the information on the device. Perhaps Ensign Tuff may offer some insightful changes that may improve it that Logan hasn't managed yet."
Jayna nodded. "Okay." She turned to Aenar and Tuff. "Any objections?"
"I have no objections."
'None at all, the more minds at work here, the quicker the job will be done,' smiled Aenar beatifically.
Logan looked over to Aenar and asked. "Do you have a console I can use?"
'Of course, either my personal terminal, or there should be one free in the outer room for you,' replied Aenar amiably, excited to see what would be behind the encryption.
Logan looked to Remy, who nodded his head slightly, before turning his gaze to Aenar. "The one outside will do fine. Wouldn't want you to think we did something to your personal terminal for some reason." He added a slight smirk before walking off.
"You are welcomed to join us, if you like Ensign, unless your curiosity in the data is more to your liking." Remy replied, in an almost uncharacteristic kind tone, before walking off behind his large Caitian friend.
"I will join you. Some extra insights might be helpful," Tuff responded.

Jayna looked over the accessible data. "Some of this doesn't even pertain to this system. Could they have tried this somewhere else? Or are they going to try it somewhere else?" She set up a search of the database to isolate and identify anything that would indicate a secondary system was being tested. Then she tweaked a manoprogram to quarantine any safeguards and lockouts so her bots could carefully peel away the encryption codes.
'A second system?' Aenar echoed, interest piqued, 'It might be an uninhabited one, or beyond Federation space as we've only received the one report so far,' he said, thinking out lout. 'Would it be close by though?'
