Nhallia laid Aurea in her crib for her nap and ran a hand across her face. She was tired. She’d been sleeping lightly for months now- ready and waiting to bolt out of bed for the nursery at the slightest sound.
That must be why she’d slept through her husband leaving home. Twice. That she knew of. How may times had she actually slept right through him leaving or coming home? How long had he been doing this?
And how had she not noticed?
She went for the replicator and made herself a cup of turmeric and ginseng tea to try to wake up a little more.
She sat down at the dining room table and leaned forward, resting her elbows on the table as she slumped.
After Verdeath had gotten home last night, and he’d gone to sleep, she’d laid there for what felt like hours, listening to him breathe… from way over there. Way over on the other side of the bed.
How long had he been doing that?
Time slipped by and Nhallia didn’t notice as her tea got cold. In the nursery, Aurea began to fuss as she woke from her nap, jolting Nhallia out of her thoughts. As she jumped up, she suddenly frowned and glanced at the clock. It was after lunch already? She only just noticed that she was hungry, but what she really suddenly noticed was that Verdeath hadn’t come home to eat either. To be honest, that happened. He got caught up in work and didn’t take a lunch break.
But…
When added to last night, and this morning…
What was going on?
