Meetings and Greetings

Mission: Eye of the Storm
Location: Captain's Office

Transferred again. Bela could not completely understand it. Everywhere she had been, the crew loved her. But for some reason or another, Captains while acknowledging her accomplishments always seemed to think she would be a better fit somewhere else.

She mentally shrugged the thought that perhaps she was a distraction, figuring that perhaps that Captains recognized all the good work she did and felt that she could accomplish more elsewhere. After all, she did have a universe to bring harmony and peace to, right?

A shuttle unceremoniously docked to Calypso and Bela walked off the shuttle and onto her new ship. As protocol required, Bela immediately headed to the Captain's Office to report in. When she arrived, she rang the chime.

Sam was sitting on the couch, trying to catch up on her archaeology journals. Unfortunately, with everything she had to do on the Calypso, she never quite managed to stay on top of the latest work in her field.

When the door chimed, she set her PADD down and stood. "Come in."

Once the door opened, Bela saw that there was a Commodore in the room. "Lieutenant Bela Swain, Chief Counselor, reporting for duty, Commodore," the petite Risian announced before walking directly up to the Commodore and giving her a quick hug.

"Umm...hello," Sam said, briefly hugging her back. "Welcome to the Calypso. Please have a seat."

Happy to have received a hug back, Bela practically danced to the indicated chair. "Thank you, Commodore. How may I be of service? All that is mine is yours." she told the Commodore with a genuine smile.

Sam smiled back. "Tell me about your last posting."

"Absolutely!" Bela replied cheerfully. "The USS Raptor was the longest I have ever been on a ship, slightly over two years in fact. It was a Centaur class starship. I was promoted both to Lieutenant and Chief Counselor on the Raptor. Captain Bank was a rather nice man. I rather enjoyed working with him but he was somewhat serious. I suppose that you have to be on a destroyer. At any rate, they were going on a mission that required more militaristic actions and he thought that I might be better off on another ship, so here I am." She beamed at the Commodore.

"Well, we are definitely not more militaristic. We're an explorer," Sam said. "What do you want to get out of your time on the Calypso?"

"Get, Commodore? I am here but to serve. My only wish is to make sure that our ship's crew mental health is well taken care of. There is much unknown out there and it can sometimes cause damage to unprepared people. Plus, there is so much baggage that people carry. I wish to relieve them of it. Perhaps that is incorrect. I do not wish to relieve them of the baggage but assist people in making it lighter and manageable. Does that make sense?"

"Yes, it does. I hope you can be of help, too. But is there something you want to accomplish yourself?"

"As long as I'm furthering bringing peace to the universe, I'm happy," Bela told the Commodore with a genuinely sweet smile.

She laughed. "I don't know how well that will work, but I would love to see you succeed."

"Thank you, Commodore. I would love to succeed as well. However, from where I sit, I know that it can work on a world, like Risa, so I know that it must be able to work on a larger scale." Bela beamed at the Commodore.

"Well, we'll start with the Calypso and go from there," Sam said. The counselor's smile was contagious. "Get settled in, then visit the senior staff and get acclimatized. Feel free to let me know if you have any questions."

"I already feel settled in. I am comfortable most anywhere. But yes, I will go and visit all of the senior staff." She stood up, feeling that she was being dismissed. "I most certainly will ask you if I have any questions. I really look forward to working with you, Commodore."

"As do I." Sam was curious to find out how the new counselor got along with her crew. She would definitely stir things up.
