OLD

Nhallia continued to frown after him, confused, until a squirm and a whimper called her attention back to Aurea.

NEW

Newmark went back to the Common Area and flopped on the couch to lean his head back as the fact is he believes she is spoiling the baby a bit; he did not want to question his Doctor/ Daddy line?

When Aurea finally seemed full, Nhallia headed back out to the dining room, not bothering to change out of the housecoat. She shifted Aurea up onto a shoulder and sat back down at her own interrupted dinner. She took a bite and then put the fork down so she could rub and pat Aurea's back to burp while she also got something to eat.

Newmark came over and took the burden from Nhallia. "Come here princess, Baba will help with that little gas." He had done this with babies enough it is nature, "Did you get your fill?" He asked knowing a burp would soon answer.

"Oh, are you sure, I can-" Nhallia started up from her chair rather automatically.

"That just disproved evolution; if it worked mothers would have three to four arms." He grinned. "Finish your nutritious rabbit food." He teased.

Sitting back down, Nhallia silently ate a few more bites, very quickly, watching closely as Baba and Baby walked around the room.

"I suppose you missed your Baba?" he moved and did the pat and rub of the baby until a rousing burp came. "Now is that... a final burp came. "Yes, now we feel better." He commented and kept the ever vigilant wife seeming to be paying him more mind. "Eat your dinner; Princess will want more soon enough you need not still be grazing when she is hungry." He teased.

Nhallia ate a few more bites but frowned a little. "I wish you wouldn't call her that," she admitted.

"Every daughter is Baba's, or as Humans say, Daddy's little princess." He glanced over. "I am told it is a tradition?"

"It's a very common nickname yes." She pushed away her plate, not so hungry anymore, and got up. "It was what my mother called me. Last thing she ever said to me," Nhallia said. She hardly ever spoke about her mother, who had left when she was four and hadn't been heard from since. Nhallia reached for Aurea.

"Kidogo Ukuu then." Newmark smiled. "It is more highly regarded as 'Little Queen." He suggested as he look in the baby's eyes. "You like that better?"

"Better," she agreed grudgingly and reached again for the baby.

"Do you not trust me with her for some reason?" Newmark handed her over. "You have scarcely given me a chance to hold her." He shook his head and backed away. "Mother knows best I suppose?"

"Don't be ridiculous," Nhallia said with a little shake of her head, then focusing in on Aurea. "There, how is my little love? Want a little playtime, then a bath before getting ready for bed? Hmm? Yeah, we'll play a few games," she said as she went over to the bright playmat spread out in the living room.

"I have some reports to follow up upon." Newmark said and moved to the opposite side of the Open area to log in.

"Mmmm-hmmm," Nhallia said to him as she laid Aurea down on the mat and knelt at the baby's feet. She smiled down at her daughter and started to sing softly, "Head, shoulders, knees, and toes, knees and toes..." touching, tickling and pointing to each body part as she went through the age old song.

Aurea wriggled and burbled and smiled, giggling her baby-laugh.

Newmark hesitated for a moment; hearing the giggles of his daughter before going to the console and finish his reports. Because his wife has taken the baby rearing duties and not trusting rally any to him he decided to call it a night after the reports he could have done tomorrow are done. There was no sense in hanging about.

Nhallia played and sang and used sign with the baby, rolled her over for a bit of tummy-time, and eventually scooped her up again to take her for a before-bedtime bath.

If nothing else a doctor does know timetables and observations. He got up and moved to 'The Girls.'

"My time to make sure little one is clean and sanitized?" He winked to the baby. "Well squeaky clean for mommie and all?"

Nhallia stopped, a little surprised. "You want to give her her bath?" she asked.

"I am a doctor, we sterilize and I want our daughter free from bacteria..." He gave a sly smile as he took his daughter gently and look her in the eyes. "You ready to play with a brillo pad little one?" He cooed.

“A brillo pad? You wouldn’t-“ Nhallia started, then stopped. “Baba’s teasing you, Little Love, he wouldn’t let you play with anything so harsh and scratchy. Not with your tender little fingers.”

Newmark looked at Nhallia with a gaping mouth and shook his head. "Really..." He said and moved the baby away. "You seem to have lost any sense of humor if you even considered that," Newark was shaking his head. "Love ... go see the girls , you really need to have some adult female time."

"Go out? Now? It's almost Aurea's bedtime, why would I go out?" she asked.

=^= Stevie and Kit, please report to Nhallia for some girl time please.=^= He transmit. =^= she needs you both...=^=

“Baba, what do you think you are doing-“ =^= Kit and Stevie, disregard, I’m fine. =^= Nhallia turned to her husband. “Since when do you get to summon people to our quarters for no reason?”

=^= Kit, stevie, please... =^= For my sanity.=^= Newmark held no humor in his tone.

"I am serious Love; do you really think I would use anything course, would be a time you would have laughed." He looked her in the eyes. "I am a Doctor... I think I know how to bathe a baby."

Her hands started to move with her words. “Well I realized it was a joke- it just wasn’t a funny one- and I never said you didn’t know how to wash a baby. I am saying that you have no business telling me or the girls what do and where to go.”

"Have fun girls." Newmark handed the baby back to Nhallia and started to the door.

Nhallia took the baby back and stared at him, mouth open, sputtering a little nonsense, but tongue tied and hands full and so unable to communicate.

Just outside the door, Kit and Stevie, coming from opposite directions nearly collided. Stevie straightening the sweater she had pulled on as she ran out the door of her own quarters when she’d been getting ready for a date. Kit as always was immaculate in her uniform. “Hey, what’s up, Doc?” Stevie asked with a little grin.

"Get her to laugh, she needs it." Newmark said in passing.

Stevie looked through the open door to Nhallia while Kit stared after Newmark. Stevie stepped into the quarters. “What just happened?” she asked.

Nhallia shook her head. “I…. I have no idea….” She responded.

In the hallway, Kit started following Newmark. “Doc? What’s wrong, why did you call for help?”

"She needs some Girl time; she is trying to be a super mom; I held her long enough for her to eat, she will burn herself out." Newmark said. I get the distinct impression she does not trust me with the baby; we are not equal in raising her; I am allowed times by Nhallia to care for the baby." He looked at Kit. "When was the last time she wanted a jam session or called you to do anything really?"

Kit shrugged helplessly. “A while I suppose. But we’re busy with work, she’s on leave. I never thought anything of it.”

"Ask her when last time she played?" Newmark shrugged. "I am going to go work out and let her take care of baby. I am not really needed and tiy girls can have time with baby, she could use adult conversation from fellow females."

“Are you sure you’re alright to go on your own? Stevie can stay with her, if you want company,” Kit offered

"I usually run 5 kilometers and do you really want to hold the heavy bag for this?" Newmark joked. "Aside from that I think maybe you might have better company from Nhallia right now."

"I could do 5k in my sleep, and you know it, Doc," Kit joked back with a smile, knowing full that he had access to her medical files and knew that she was in perfect security training physical form. "But fine. You change your mind and want a real workout, you can call me up for a run any time."

"Thanks kit, I need clear head, take care." He bid her as he set off to the gym.

As Kit turned back towards the door, Stevie came out. “Where are you going?” Kit asked.

Stevie shrugged. “She said she doesn’t need any help, and told me to head on home. So I guess I’m not cancelling my date after all. And you shouldn’t cancel your plans either, she doesn’t want any company.”

The door didn’t open when Kit stepped a little closer to it and she raised an eyebrow at Stevie. “Told you, she doesn’t want company. Unless you live there or want to abuse your security privileges, that door’s not opening,” Stevie said as she headed down the hall. She did have that date, and she’d been making him chase her for three weeks. Cancelling for a good cause was one thing, but you couldn’t play hard to get forever without getting got at least a little, or the game was over before it really began.

Kit stared at the closed door for a second and shook her head. Nhallia and the Doc having… whatever this was… it wasn’t exactly a fight because it seems only one of them was having it… but Newmark walking out of their home…

She wasn’t sure what to make of what had had just happened but it wasn’t good, she knew that much.
