Mission:
Food for the Gods
Location: Medical
Timeline: Concurrent

After leaving Marine HQ, and dropping off his meager belongings in his new office; Johnathan stole no time before going to Medical. Walking through the halls of the ship made him lose track of where he was more than once but he found Medical inside of three hours. That was something to be proud of he was sure. He had been refusing to ask directions, even go so far as to tell others on the ship that he needed to find the place himself.
Stepping inside he glanced around before a Nurse stepped up.
“May I help you Lieutenant?” He asked sweetly, before glancing behind Johnathan to see if others were arriving.
“Yes, I’m here for my medical briefing and check up. I’m Johnathan Askard, a new Marine.”
"Follow me," the nurse said.
“Following,” Johnathan said with half a thought. He always did enjoy getting looked over in Medical, wanting to learn something new. Most of the doctors he’d seen since his family had been marooned in this place never took him seriously. And sometimes he fell into old habits when it came to dealing with people. At home you always made yourself known to those above you, or you’d have another trip to the medics to explain away.
"Have a seat and I will get the doctor for you."
Nodding, Johnathan hopped up on the bio bed, and absently began kicking his feet slightly like a small child. The small things in life always brought him joy, and allowed him to regain some semblance of peace.
Not long, Dwight entered the area that was used for minor injuries or illnesses, which is also used for physical exams. "I'm Doctor Dwight McCabe, Chief Medical Officer. You are...?"
“Johnathan Askew,” the Marine said hopping down and offering his hand. “Good to meet you Doc, hows life here on the Calypso?”
He felt the friendly vibes in the air as he took the man's hand to give a firm shake before releasing it. "Good to meet you as well. Life here seems to be okay but I still got a lot to learn about it and the crews." Dwight set the PADD down next to Johnathan on the biobed. "Any medical problems or allergies that I need to know about?”
“One allergy, cold steel,” Johnathan said with a laugh. “But then again most people are allergic to sudden injections of that substance I’d dare say.”
The doctor laughed. "That's eons ago if you are talking about vaccines that we don't do anymore," he said as he placed his hands gently to both sides of his neck to palpate. "I do old fashioned hands on medicine," he explained to ease the fear of his patients with the touch instead of using the instrument. "Glands feel okay." He moved his hands to his face to pull down one of his eye to check for anything out of the ordinary and repeated the other eye. He picked up a tricorder to finish the rest of the examination scan. Breaking the silence, Dwight asked, "So, where are you from?"
“Terran outpost just above Vulcan,” Johnathan said with a shrug. “And I was talking about knives there doc. Cold steel being injected into someone would be a knife.”
"Well, back those days of vaccines and medicines, they used metal needles to give medication. It freaks me out about the history of medicine and the tools they used...can't imagine. Hypospray is nothing compared to that. You have nothing to worry about," Dwight closed the tricorder and crossed his arms. "I'm from Dublin, Ireland on Earth. You must be of science," by the color of his uniform.
“Marine,” Johnathan said shaking his head. “I failed most of my science courses. I don’t have the intellect required.” Waiting as the doctor continued his physical, Johnathan perked up. “Do you have any text about ancient forms of medicine? I’d like to see what happened previously.”
"Awe...too bad on science. Sorry to hear that," he unfolded his arms. "Just one second," Dwight left him and returned a minute later with a PADD in his hand. He handed the flat rectangular shaped object to him. "Ancient medical information is on that. You can borrow this and return it when you are done. You passed your physical examination and free to go. If you have any questions, feel free to ring me."
“Will do Doc. I’ll be sending an official request after I get settled in my new position if that’s alright with you? I’d like to see some basic combat lifesaving skills be taught to the Marines if you have someone free to do the training.”
"Why didn't you say so at the beginning?" He said, surprised. "I will look into it and let you know."
As Johnathan got up, he shook the doctors hand again. "I usually talk business after the medics are done checking me over Doc. It's nothing personal, but I prefer to have a sharp mind about my bits." Laughing at his own joke, Jonathan walked out of Medical and started trying to find his way back to the Marine Deck.
