Mission: What Lies Beneath?
Location: Ready Room
Timeline: Current

Karma walked through the airlock and looked around. This ship really didn't look that much different than the Tyber. He had a busy day planned and wanted to get started but he had to meet with the Commanding Officer before he could get to the things he actually wanted to do. He quickly walked to the nearest turbolift and rode it to the Bridge.

As the door opened he was a little surprised to see that very few people were manning the various stations. It actually made sense considering they were docked at the Starbase. Walking to the Captain's ready room, Karma pressed the chime and straightened his uniform as he waited.

Sam had just returned from talking with Ted and was entering data into her computer. "Come in," she called. She stood and walked around her desk to greet the new arrival.

When she saw Karma she smiled. "Hi. You must be the new Intel officer. Welcome."

"Thank you, Commander," Karma said as he approached and extended his hand. "I'm glad I finally made it. That trip was brutal."

"Oh really? I'm sorry it was a rough trip," Sam replied.

"It wouldn't have been so bad except I was stuck sitting next to some Commander that was a pilot. He kept complaining about the pilots of the transport." Karma paused and looked at the chair in front of the desk. "Mind if I sit down?"

"Please do. Can I get you something to drink?"

"No thank you," Karma said to her as he sat down. "I'm anxious to get settled."

"I don't blame you," Sam replied as she sat behind her desk. "I'm always eager to get settled myself. So, Lieutenant, tell me a little about your last assignment."

"I'm not one to say bad things about someone, Commander," Karma said to her. "So let's just say I was rather disappointed with my previous ship and leave it at that."

Sam raised an eyebrow. She liked the fact that he wouldn't speak badly of his former CO, but she was also saddened that he had such a bad experience. "Fair enough. I hope your assignment before that was a better experience."

"My time on the Santa Fe was quite rewarding," Karma said with a smile as he thought back to his time on that ship. "I was sad to hear that she was being decommissioned. Captain Brimley and I had a good working relationship. I sincerely hope that you and I can have a similar relationship."

"So do I. I find that if there's camaraderie among the command and senior staff everything goes better. It also makes for a better working environment as we spend so much time together on and off duty anyway," Sam agreed.

"You should have been briefed on our mission before you got here," she said as she pulled out a PADD and loaded some data onto it. "I spoke with Commander Adams on Typhon. Apparently there is some irregularity with the way OreCo was given the contract for mining Tiberius IV. Your job will be to see if there's anything to this and to help us figure out what happened to the cargo ship and the Federation shuttle." She handed the PADD to Karma. "This has the latest information from the commander."

Karma briefly scanned the data and said, "I'll see what I can do but it may take a little time. I still need to inspect my staff and get the department organized to my liking. How soon will you need the information?"

"You will need to familiarize yourself with OreCo before we leave tomorrow. However, I won't need a report until we get back. There may be additional information from the mission you will want to incorporate into your report," Sam said.

"It probably wouldn't hurt to pay a visit to Lieutenant Commander Adams before we leave," Karma said. "Perhaps she has something on OreCo that would be useful."

"It wouldn't hurt to ask, as we'll be here for a few more hours," Sam replied.

"In that case, do you have anything else you'd like to discuss?" Karma asked.

"Not at the moment," she said with a smile. "I'll let you get to work. Keep me informed of anything important you find out."

"Of course, Commander," Karma replied as he stood up. "If you need me in the next few hours I'll be on the Starbase," he added as he stood up and walked out of the room.
