Mission: Pulling Together

[CONTINUED]

[OLD]

"I almost expect to see trout jump." Munich marveled himself at the sight.

"And I see heat shimmering on the desert and think of the science behind it," Marisa said, shaking her head. "But then, I am a scientist, so it is to be expected."

[NEW]

"It is like a beautiful woman; alluring and a spectral and I seek only to enjoy rather than figure her out, to be close to and enjoy." Munich replied and smiled.

Maria shook her head. "That will do you no good with a real woman. She is more likely to lose her temper if you treat her so."

"That would be unwise." Munich said. "How about dinner and dancing? That might be better for showing how I feel, the dance never lies you know?"

"Querida, Latin Ballroom is all about lying. But dinner and dancing could be fun."

Munich glanced back out at the scene of the shimmering desert. "Tell me one thing, does knowing the science behind the illusion take away from the Romantic setting?" He asked curiously.

Maria considered his question for several moments. "It depends on the person. If he or she is a romantic at heart, no. If it's a Vulcan, then most likely."

"I am very glad you like it." Munich winked.

"It's beautiful in its starkness, is it not?"she asked. "I would not like to be caught out in the desert, but it is beautiful to look at."

"Have you decided what you would like to eat?" the waiter asked, coming back to teh table.

"I'm afraid we've been admiring the view, Maria admitted. "What do you recommend?"

"Our specialty is a type of Gordoc plant salad ; like an egg plant on Earth with sweet potato style sides and a type of wine that sothhs the pallet." The Waiter suggested.

Looking to Maria he nod. "We will have two please."

Maria nodded. It sounded delicious.

The waiter bowed and slipped away.

"Maria." Munich was a little flushed ; maybe from the heat in a small way. "I hav someting that I should bring to your attention." He slowly reached and took her hand. "I am not man ov vords." He took a breath and slowed his speech. "I hoped this is good setting?" He look into her eyes. "I wanted to tell you I care for you but dat was small I am sure I love you, you are high point in my life, I enjoy being with you. Just wanted you to know."

Maria smiled and squeezed his hand. "Gracias. Te quiero tambien" she said, letting him know she felt the same.

As a gentleman in public he took her hand and lightly kissed it as is nothing too overt; kissing her might have been inappropriate and he felt some decorum as well as a great heat in his chest as he had confirmation of shared feelings.

"Das is Goot." He winked and their hands were back to the table. "Now if the dinner is half as goot we call this a great moment?"

Maria chuckled. "Well, I will agree that a bad meal will definitely be a bad thing, but I do not believe this place will serve anything bad."

The waiter arrived in time to hear Maria's comment and beamed. "We appreciate your confidence, ma'am. You will not be disappointed." He set a plate in front of Maria, then another in front of Hans.

A sommelier showed Hans a bottle of wine for his approval, then poured a small amount into a glass.

Munich swirled it and took a good scent of the coquette of it before taking a sip and nodding approvingly. "Very good, thank you."

He filled Hans' glass, then poured one for Maria before setting the bottle on the table and walking away to leave the two to their meal.

"To more nights like these." Munich offered the toast.

Maria raised her glass to his. "To more nights like these." Although she hoped not too many. She did rather enjoy her work.

"Now we enjoy this food and the leave time as they are usually far between." He smiled as he took a bite of his food. "Okay, the night is still alive as this is very good."

Maria laughed. "I'm glad you are so easily satisfied," she teased, taking a bite of her own food and smiling. The salad was quite good and she ate far more of it than she thought she would. "We will have to go for a walk after this."

"I think that can be arranged." Munich agreed. "What is shore leave if not to see the sights and such?" He showed a sly Smile. "IS there anything the Science Lady wants to see?"

"Far too much," Maria admitted. "But we can make a list, start at the top, and see how much we get to." There was enough to keep her interest on Vulcan for at least a two months of shore leave, but she was quite willing to hit the highlights and leave the rest for another time.

"Might it be best to let the professional couriosity in the daytime activities and the Lady her nightly activities?" MUnich offered. "I would like to see what the Vulcans have for a subspace communications center, I promise not to gawk too very much an only the center's operational aspects.... let me into the inner workigs and I might forget about time?" He admitted. "I trust you can assure I do not get... lost?"

"Well, at least after a time. I see nothing wrong in getting lost from time to time. It just shows how much we enjoy our work."

They grew quiet as both focused on their dinner and the scenery.
