Mission:
Pulling Together
Location: Conference Room
Timeline: Shortly after leaving Jenefra
ON
Sam had called so many briefings to deal with the situation on Jenefra that she was pleased to finally have some good news to report. So, she called a meeting of all her senior staff and their assistants to let them know where they were headed and why.
She set the time as breakfast and had a continental breakfast, along with breakfast burritos, set out for the staff.
Munich adjusted his uniform as usual; the meeting was of the staff officers; this time Clinton was in tow; as the Deputy CHief he had been pretty much running the department at those times Munich had to do the Executive Officer duties. WHich seemed to be escalating with each passing day at the present rate.
"You have the latest projections of the upgraded Communications relays?" Munich was in a conversation.
"Yes sir, the new upgrades are being rotated in with the routine maintenance." Clinton replied passing a PADD to Munich.
"Goot enough." Munich said as the door closed behind and after glancing at the schedules he passed the PADD back. "Greeting Commodore York." Munich greeted the Superior Officer as he went towards his seat to her right side, Clinton taking one beside that.
"Hello, commander. Glad you could make it," Sam replied.
[Engineering]
"W- what!?" The expression on Lieutenant Annie Dixon's face was pure panic.
"As I just said," T'Pral calmly explained, "The Commodore has called a meeting and has asked assistants come as well. You are my assistant, therefore, you will come."
"B- but..." she began, but trailed off softly, "so many pips..."
"It is a normal human reaction to be intimidated by high-ranking officers." The Vulcan folded her hands before her. "However, they are merely people, not Vicarian razorbacks. There is no need to be intimidated."
Annie fidgeted nervously, "Easy for you to say."
"Come, I will show you."
[Conference Room]
T'Pral and Dixon entered the conference room. T'Pral leading, Dixon following and clutching a PADD to her chest like a security blanket. the Vulcan took a seat towards the end, with Dixon falling heavily into one on her other side, not making eye contact with anyone else. "Commodore," T'Pral said in greeting with a slight nod.
"Hello, lieutenants," Sam said, nodding to both women.
Arnon, Rhiannon, and Carlos entered together and made their way over to the food. After selecting a few items and drinks, the trio took seats.
"Good morning everyone!" Arnon said. "For those of you who haven't yet met them, these are my offspring. First Lieutenant Carlos Rodriguez-Barak, marine platoon leader, and his sister Lieutenant Rhiannon O'Connor-Barak, nurse practitioner and head nurse. If they hadn't been raised on Rigel V, they would probably be terribly embarrassed to have their father showing them off like prized domesticated animals, but hopefully they absorbed enough Rigelian culture not to be bothered by such things."
"Good morning Commodore," Rhiannon said. "Guten Morgen, Kapitan Leutnant Munich. Live long and prosper Lieutenant T'Pral, and hello to your assistants who I haven't met yet."
"Good morning," Sam replied.
"Thank you," Munich replied to the proper German ranking. "This is the deputy Chief of Communications Kyle Clinton." Munich introduced. "A veryy able man who has compensated for my acting Executive Officer duties."
"Pleasure is all mine." Clinton replied.
The clicking of heels resounded as the doors followed by Spartacus walking into the Briefing out from the corridor. Her skirted uniform pressed to perfection . Today adorned with silver ear rings that had three tiny dangling diamonds that caught the light that were a match to the bracelet on her left wrist. She wore her pleasant smile as she entered the room and saw the group mulling about.
Greetings. " She gave a proper half bow as a lady should in a skirt. "It is good to see you all." She rose again.
*Hello Samantha.* She projected. *Arnon, I am here to assist you.* SHe gave her Boss.
Sam smiled at the Orion. "Hello."
"Well come Teenah," Arnon said. "Have you met Rhiannon and Carlos?"
"I have not had the pleasure." Spartacus moved closer and offered a handshake. "I am Spartacus." She introduced herself with a wide smile.
Illise entered the conference room with her assistant, Ronnie. "Good morning!" She smiled pleasantly at the assembly. Most she knew, but a few she'd only seen in passing or from their profiles in the crew roster. She walked over to Arnon and held out a hand in greeting to the pair standing near him. "I'm Lieutenant Illise Hale, Chief Science Officer, and this is Lieutenant Ronnie Lancaster, Assistant Chief." She also turned to greet the woman beside T'Pral.
"Hi," Ronnie said. "Nice to meet you."
"There will be a slight detour for Shore Leave. After we rendezvous with teh Benecia to pick up our new Doctor, we'll be taking Shore Leave on Vulcan," Sam announced.
"That should prove delightful." Spartacus said. "I have not been there since me Meditation Training." SHe had a genuine smile on her face. "One of the few planets that I could almost let me hair down while visiting, no real danger of an emotional reaction."
"Well, not usually," Sam replied. "But there are some sections of Shi'Kahr that are more human than Vulcan."
"Indeed," T'Pral added, "Vulcan has seen many resettlements. Whether an attraction to a logical way of life, or some pre-conceived notions of peace." She paused a moment, her neatly folded hands upon the table unclasping and clasping. "I can recommend certain cultural highlights for those interested. Keep in mind not all Vulcan locations welcome tourism."
"Yes," Sam said. "If you don't want Vulcan society, stick to the capitol city."
"I hear there is some very good hiking and mountain climbing on Vulcan." Illise offered. Not everyone would appreciate a trek across the punishing desert or a grueling haul up a shear rock-face, but it sounded like a pretty good time to her.
"Agreed. There's information on the planet and activities for visitors. There's also a list of places you should avoid. I suggest you all take time to read it," Sam said.
Sam paused for a moment. "I would like each department head and assistant to set up rotations for those in your department so that everyone has a chance to have some time off. I want you to to work together so that you have shore leave as well. Everyone needs a break, and I want you to take it." She looked around the table, her expression serious. "That's an order. Now, take some time to relax while we're en route. There's nothing pressing, so you should all have time to put things in order for shore leave. Dismissed."
