Standing in the turbolift on her way to the bridge, Lilliana was preparing herself to meet her new CO. As her last one was a believer that Marines had no use in Starfleet, Lily wasn't looking forward to this meeting. She'd just come off a long haul transport and was feeling a bit jet lagged. Hearing the lift begin to slow down, Lily made sure her hair was tied back, her uniform was as close to perfect as she could get it and her orders were all in order.

Stepping out as the turbolift doors opened, Lilliana quickly walked down to the door that led to the CO's ready room, took a quick breath and tapped the door chime.

"Come in," Sam said. It had been quiet all day and she was enjoying a cup of canela tea while she read through an archaeological journal. She saved her spot and set the PADD down beside her cup of tea on her desk and stood to great the newcomer.

Stepping through the door, Lily stood at attention, "Ma'am, 1st Lieutenant Lilliana Bourne reporting for duty as Marine Corp Devision Commanding Officer" she said, both her arms straight down beside her.

Sam raised an eyebrow. "Marine CO? I already have one." While she spoke she pulled out a PADD and began to thim through it. She'd gone through the official email that morning and there was nothing about a change in command. Surely Damon would have heard if she hadn't.

Blinking in confusion, Lilliana quickly pulled out the PADD she was holding and read through it, looking for where she could have gone wrong. After a moment, she shook her head, "um, no ma'am, there's no mistake. I've been ordered to this ship under your command to replace Marine Captain Cameron Bourne. I assumed he retired" she said, holding out the PADD for Sam's inspection.

Sam took the PADD and thumbed through it. "Computer, locate Captain Cameron Bourne."

"Captain Bourne is in his quarters."

"I accept that your orders say that you are here to replace Captain Bourne, but I have not received anything stating that he is retiring, not even from Captain Bourne." She copied the data from the PADD into her computer and handed it back. "You're staying here, but we need to determine if it is as Captain Bourne's replacement or as his second."

The fact that they had the same last name did not escape Sam. "Is there a reason you came here?" she asked.

"Um, yes Ma'am. I did request a transfer to your ship. The afore mentioned officer, Captain Bourne, is my half brother" Lilliana explained, feeling a little uncomfortable, "he doesn't know about me because of reasons that I'd rather not discuss with anyone outside of his family, and no I don't count this crew as his family, no matter how close you are. Is that going to be a problem Commodore?"

Sam thought for a moment. "Have you spoken to him yet?"

"No Ma'am, not yet. I wanted to read what I could on him first before I went to talk to him" Lilliana responded "I don't know how he would react to finding out that his father.........." She said, stopping herself from giving to much away, "...to finding out about me"

Sam watched the woman for several moments. "I can let you see his public record, but only he can show you his private one. I would also like to learn a little more about you as well."

"I have already read his public record, there wasn't much there" Lilliana explained, "as for getting to know me, what would you like to know?"

"First," Sam said, deciding to go with more general questions for now, "Tell me something about your last assignment."

"My last assignment was to a Federation starbase near the Cardassian Boarder. I was assigned to track down and capture a Maquis cell that was operating in the area. We recieved an anonymous tip that explained where their base of operations was. I took an assault team in a Yellowstone class runabout to hit the facility. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a trap set up by the cell to draw away some of the Marine presence on the station so they could get their hands on a Cardassian Frigate they had been tracking for months"

"Oh? I thought all the Maquis joined the Federation or were killed during the Dominion War?" By all the information she'd read about the Dominion War and the Maquis, there were no active cells. Or there had been none for 20 years. Sam wondered if they were simply calling themselves the Maquis in an effort to use the reputation to their advantage. It was something she was going to look into. Admirals Burke nad Hunter would know for sure. It would also give Sam a chance to check on Lilliana's background. "Never mind. I'll make some inquiries. In the meantime, go talk to Captain Bourne. Before I can authorize your transfer, I'll need to hear from him." She smiled encouragingly at the Marine. "Come back later and we'll continue our discussion."
