Mission: Shadow Dance

[OLD]

"Perfect, thank you." He waited a couple of seconds for the elements to separate and then inspected the results after the wheel stopped. . "Okay, we have the unit calibrated." HE smiled to Hale. "Always good to calibrate before an important test just to be sure of the results, I will add this to the solution and place it in the centrifuge for testing. "Once I get a readings for the test I an run it through the Medical Database and if you could look as well through your databases we might lock this down, should only take about thirty seconds to break down the blood and separate the elements. Then we put that through the database... " He snapped the locks into place and hit the switch. "Then we might know if Hale is easy enough."

[NEW]

Illise looked at Newmark kind of sideways. "Huh?" She asked, "Sorry, I don't think I heard you correctly..." A small amused smile played at the corners of her mouth. She was pretty sure what it meant when you said that someone was 'easy', and it had nothing to do with running a blood sample analysis - well usually.

Talk about a red face. "Uh- Um.. sorry I-I meant 'we might - know Hale- if it is easy enough..." He was realizing his mouth might have a slightly faster speed than his brain. "It did -not-come out that way did it?" He was shaking his head. "What I get for being into my work... faster mouth than brain?" He put up hands in surrender. "Brain typo?..." He offered.

Illise stifled a laugh with her hand as he stammered. "Brain typo." She agreed, grinning openly this time.

"My wife is not one to mince words." Newmark busied himself with the testing to try and change the subject.

The centrifuge finished and data began appearing on the screens, "Alright, let's see what we have." Illise said and approached one of the consoles, where she connected it to the main science terminal.

Jayde walked into the room and smiled. "Sorry I'm late. Remy is busy and lost track of time. He asked me to cover for him."

Illise looked up from the console. "Hello. The data is just coming in now."

"Great!" Jayna said. "My timing isn't usually that good." She walked over to Illise. "If you don't find anything in the science database, I can run it through Intel. We might have something you don't."

Illise nodded, then turned back to the console. She input the data and began running it against the science database, hoping to find a match for the compounds. She had previously analysed the toxin which had nearly killed Victoria when she had set off the trap in the village, identifying the chemical composition as organic compounds. They already knew that this new toxin was synthetic in origin and not know tot he Jenefrans, but Illise had to be thorough. As predicted, there were no matches.

After running the comparison, she began a search of the science database for a match. It had been running for less than a minute when the console froze and a message appeared on her screen: RESTRICTED ACCESS. The bold text was framed in yellow and flashed repeatedly. Illise frowned and tried to bypass the message by entering her security codes with no effect.

"Let me try," Jayna said. She entered her access code. "Computer, continue the search for a match. Authorization MeerKat Gamma 22371."

"Search authorized," the computer said.

Access to these files is restricted. The computer said aloud.

Jayna turned to Illise. "That's interesting. Why would there need to be a security clearance for this?"

The answer came a moment later when the computer found a match. It was an old poison created by a group in Section 31, a secretive branch of Intel that had been disbanded years before for its illegal activity. "How on earth did they get a hold of this?" she asked.

Then she sat back and sighed. "Well, it's good we found it, but not so good for Tate."

Illise made a noise in agreement, while looking through the now-unlocked files. "To think that those people ever thought to call themselves part of the Federation..." she mused aloud, disgust coloring her tone. "This toxin is terrifying."

"Has anyone else accessed these files?" Illise asked. She doubted it; whoever could gain access would also likely be able to cover their tracks. But if there was any possibility at all, it was worth looking into.

Jayde contacted Horus and ran a quick search through the Ra's computer as it had a higher security clearance, just to be sure. "No. At least not from anywhere on the Calypso."

She made a quick copy of the information to use with their evidence to free Tate and put it on a PADD. "Here. This should help a little."

"The main ting is that no one on the ship really has access to it so we can say that it was a poison made by the Federation." Newmark pointed out. "So how do we approach this?"

"With the truth," Jayna said. "That it was a poison used 20 years ago by a rogue group. The group was disbanded and the poison classified. No one on the Calypso accessed the information from the computer. No one replicated the poison, it wasn't created in a lab on the ship, and as far aw we can tell, no one on the ship had access to it." Jayna shrugged. "We can't guarantaee that someone else didn't take it down to Jenefra, but we're pretty certain it was no one from the Calypso."

Although she doubted the Jenefrans would accept that. They didn't seem to trust anyone's word but Keelan's, so they were clearly biased.

"I'll leave the data with you and let Remy know what we found. I hope it helps," Jayna said. She nodded to the others and headed back to Intel.
