Mission: Shadow Dance
Location: Calypso, Sickbay
Timeline: Day 4, afternoon. Immediately after "On the Run"

ON

Logan, Orvack, and Kalikana materialized in sickbay on the Calypso.

Kali slowly straightened, her hand going to Orvack's shoulder as she looked around the room. It was like nothing she'd ever seen or could have imagined. The sights, sounds, and smells were not pleasant. Maybe if she'd been exposed to them in small quantities it would not have been so bad, but all at once was a bit overwhelming.

Several Starfleet personnel hurried over to Logan who lay bleeding on the floor, the knife still in his belly.

Orvack looked around the unfamiliar room, unaware of how he got there or where it was. He quickly placed his hand on the handle of his sword and placed an arm in front of Kali, protecting her as he stood ready to attack. "What is this? How did we get here? Stay behind me."

"It was the Starfleet device. I used it to ask for help," Kali told him. "I believe we are on their ship."

"Careful with him!" Rhiannon shouted over the din. "Don't pull out the knife yet! Let's get him up on a table, that one's closest. Somebody bring me a puncture wound kit! And tell Doctor Newmark to get his ass in gear or I'll treat Logan myself and he can sign off on it later! Mister Logan, can you hear me?"

Logan didn't response. He lay there motionless, unconscious to the world.

Rhiannon ran a medical tricorder over Logan. The knife wasn't serrated and didn't have any nasty back-angled side blades that would do additional damage on the way out. That meant they could simply remove it. As a nurse practitioner, Rhiannon was qualified to deal with this in the absence of a doctor, but still, Newmark was a surgeon and he might think of something Rhiannon hadn't.

"Where in the name of the Prime Number is Doctor Newmark?!?" She said again. "Somebody find him and tell him to move his ass, stat!"

Helga poked her head in the room. "I will get him," she said, hurrying out.

The doors to the sickbay opened as Remy, with Spock on his shoulder, walking into the Sickbay. He looked a mess. Hair was our of place and his uniform wasn't as tight as usual. He appeared to be a little man dealing with something and this situation didn't help. He took a moment to look around before locking his eyes on Logan, lying there on the medical bed. "This has to be a bad dream. No, not a dream. A nightmare. A sick and twisted nightmare." He said to himself softly before storming over. "What is his condition?!!" He shouted, looking around with stern eyes. "Somebody do something!!!!" The little chief of Intel screamed, breathing heavily before whispering. "Somebody please help my brother." His eyes slightly teary.

A glance at Logan's vitals told Rhiannon she wasn't going to wait for Newmark any longer.

"Type and match his blood and start replacing what he's lost," Rhiannon said, activating the biobed's anesthetic and sterile fields. "And start him on anti-bacterials and anti-biotics. The knife is in deep enough to have punctured the stomach. Jenny, hand me that protoplaser. Marek, Jonas, you're going to retract the wound. Loren, when I tell you, pull the knife out. On three: one, two, three!"

While Marek and Jonas held the wound open, Rhiannon used the protoplaser to seal the torn artery, then stomach itself. Then she began to heal the muscle and other deep tissue. Finally Rhiannon gave the order to release the retractors and began to seal the wound once and for all. She was careful and there was no visible scar when she was done. Relieved, she handed off the protoplaser.

"Alright," she said. "Two more bags of blood after this, then fluids after that. Keep him lightly sedated. He'll need to rest for a while. When Doctor Newmark finally shows up, give him Mister Logan's chart to review."

The RNs and corpsmen detached the anti-grav stretcher from the top of the biobed and moved Logan to a recovery area.

"Lieutenant Baptiste," Rhiannon said, turning to the diminutive intelligence officer. "We'll set up a chair for you near Mister Logan if you'd like to sit with him a while. The procedure went smoothly and as far as I could see, both visually and through my instruments, the damage was successfully repair. We'll be watching him for any bleeding or signs of infection, but I've started him on a general, broad spectrum antibiotic just in case, so I'm not really worried about infection."

"Nurse." Remy replied, a serious look on his face. "At the moment, I do not require a chair. I require that knife and my friend in a condition to speak. Now, since you seem to be the only competent and capable person here at the moment, I need you to assure me that he will be alright."

Rhiannon smiled.

"My father warned me about you, Lieutenant," she said. "Kelly, bag and tag that knife for Lieutenant Batiste. As for the condition of your friend..."

"Rhiannon?" said a nurse. There was only one Rhiannon in Medical and everyone knew who she was. 'Lieutenant O'Conner Barak' was a mouthful. "The tox screen came back. The knife seems to have been poisoned."

Rhiannon walked over and took the PaDD from the nurse.

"Hmmm..." she said. "It looks very similar to what was used on Doctor Drani. Let's start him on the anti-toxin for that poison and see what that does. Meanwhile, have the computer get to work on crafting an anti-toxin more specific to this poison."

Rhiannon turned back to Remy.

"Okay," she said. "As I said, the wound itself was repaired nicely, inside and out, if I do say so myself. The poison is a new wrinkle, but as I said, it's similar to the one that was used on Doctor Drani, so we have a head start on an anti-toxin. As for waking him up...I'm not sure if I can do that. Ideally, we'd let him wake up on his own, after a bit of a rest. I actually just sedated him, so I'd have to give him a fairly powerful stimulant, which is contraindicated at this point. Will it kill him? Probably not. Will it impair his recovery? Definitely. He's weak and he's lost a lot of blood, as you can tell from the red stuff all over my nice clean floor. So, do you still want me to wake him up?"
