OLD

"Nice to have family around to take care of you. Your mother is staying here in the spare room so I'm not alone at night. Just... in case something happens. Between her and Doc, I'm never alone for more than a few hours between visits."

NEW

"Just wait until teh baby is here." Newmark made a comment. "You might hold the Baby for feedings, but do not expect to need to say 'help' before someone is ready to do so." He was joking. "Doc never sees his children and I think you are the closest thing to a daughter he had a chance to see through this and he is more treating you like a patient." He chuckled. "I am sure he will dote over you more so than the baby."

"I thought doting on me was your job. Or are you resigning me in favor of a new number one?" Nhallia (only half) joked, crossing her arms over her stomach.

"I show you my total love for you; to dote would not be giving it true definition, Doting are for parents to children." He placed a hand on the screen where her cheek was if he could have touched her. "I will allow him to dote as Doc, but I will keep showing you how much you mean to me."

Nhallia reached out and touched her hand to his on the screen. She got a little teary eyed and pressed her lips tightly together to stop from crying. "Verdeth..." she whispered.

"Don't worry Love." He winked. "Mission here is going a bit as planned but no one is shooting so we should be out on time." /he smiled brightly. "I will be there before you know it." He tried to change it before she might be emotional. "You know I have not been in the same roof with my mother since I bought the house?" He laughed. "I wonder if we can get her out when I arrive."

"As much fun as she's having here fussing over me, I'm sure she's missing her own house. It is a lot more luxurious than our comfortable little home," Nhallia pointed out. And it was- Veda had a gorgeous home with lots of space and many rooms and several added luxuries. She spent her days pampering others and when she went home for the night she could pamper herself if she wished. This little beach house was comfortable and very nice- but compared to Veda's it was the 'shack' that she sometimes jokingly referred to it as. "Of course... she is going to have to fuss over you a bit when you get here, so I'm sure she won't abandon the house completely. After all, you are also involved in providing her with a grandchild, and she's awfully excited about that."

"She always does Love." He smiled. "And I have had to share that with someone else as Mother finally got that daughter she wanted." He laughed. "If we have a girl I think I am kicked to the curb."

"You- don't think she'll be as happy if it's a boy?" Nhallia asked, almost fearfully. She had been trying to avoid thoughts about the baby's gender- it made everything seem even closer, even more real. But if Verdeth's mother- the only Mom she had- had a preference... What could she do about that?

"She would love a boy as well; just she would not have a female ruling body, with Doc the guys would outnumber the woman votes in the family." Newmark added. "I think no matter who is the Little one Mother will pretty much give the Little Baby the highest vote no matter if a boy or girl. You are the daughter she never had and the first Grandchild, I am just the son... I will be second fiddle as it should be." He laughed. "You and the baby are the most important thing to me and Mother knows that so she will follow suit."

"Do... I know you will be happy either way, but... Have you thought about it? I mean, have you... imagined? A boy or a girl? I can't- I just don't see it clearly in my mind..." she tried to ask, not even sure what she was asking. Verdeth didn't have a preference she was sure, and if he did have a leaning one way or another he wouldn't say it! But she was curious if he had pictured either or both in his mind's eye- did he imagine teaching his son to throw a ball or his daughter to swim? Could he see tea parties or blanket forts in the living room?

"They looked like you." Newmark said. "The freckles would be what makes then cute kids and no way to know they were of their mother and of that gene pool as they are lucky to have them." He said without hesitation. "It is all I can do not to smile at the thoughts of you with the child being a reflection of the woman I love, that is about all I ned to know or think of."

"You don't see you? Not your eyes, or your hands maybe, or... Anything of you- of both of us, not just me?"

"I was just pointing out the best points." Newmark smiled. "It is more the fact the eyes were mine; the sparkle when the child looks at his mother and smiles like I do when I see you. That is what I gave them; the look of fascination with things." He admitted. "You know I am a pacifist and like to look at life for the possibilities."

Nhallia pressed her lips together as she took those words in. Verdeth did always see the possibilities in life- preserving and protecting it were his primary motivations in life. His hope and faith in Life itself had more to do with his outlook on so many things than he even realized.

It was part of what made him who he was, and part of what she loved so much.

She gently touched her stomach and wished she could see the same possibilities he did.

"Just a few more weeks," was all she said, though.

"Yes, just a little bit more and then I will be basking with you on the beach gladly being your back support at the water's edge; having a steady support might help?" He said with a laugh. "What say you that we kick mother out for a couple of days and just bask around in sheer affectionate comfort?"

Nhallia sighed. "The first day you get here, Lover. The very first day."
