Vreetch had the same counter position as Dr. Drani; The Jeneferan representative, walked with the Federation Doctor through the Medical facility. He was quite prideful when it came to her hospital the staff were well trained and the medical supplies among the best in the world.
"This is one of our standard Operating Rooms." Vreetch said as she came through the doors to the observation room above. "Naturally to maintain the sterile environment we could not go walking through without being properly scrubbed and such." He thought it a humor line? "As you can see we have the tanks for the anesthesia and the scalpels and sutures are all covered with sterilized material to maintain the pristine setting. The filtration system has the proper microbe filters to allow the best operation conditions?"
Arnon followed their guide, observing the facility as they walked through.
"How many operating rooms do you have at this facility?" he asked.
"24 Operating Theaters, 8 of those are like this one for the training and ones where surgery is deemed needing of observation. The other 16 are more of a standard type and about 1200 patient beds in this facility." Vreetch answered. "We do most of the experimental types of surgery in this facility so it is slightly smaller in number of rooms as it is the source of our Medical Pride and Innovation for the most part."
Arnon nodded.
"What kind of strain does civil unrest or outright military conflict put on your medical infrastructure?" he asked. "Are you able to support the rehabilitation of those who are severely wounded?"
"Very capable." Vreetch said. "In our fighting we win or die trying so the average wounded we have coming through here is more of what you call Trama cases, we do not fight half-hearted. The fighting is for keeps as I have heard the initial team of your people say. To us it is the strong that survive ; it is nature. We do our best to heal those we can."
Drani went over the stats and information the director gave to her. 'Show me your shiniest hospital...but what of your less equipped hospitals? How are the field hospitals?' she thought. "And what exactly are the medical experiments you are conducting?"
Vreetch looked to the Doctor and noticed that their questions are pointed the way she brought it across made him think.
"When a new procedure is brought to our attention we explore the variable under controlled conditions here at this facility then once perfected we teach others the procedure." Vreetch explained. "Right now we are working on perfecting the artificial organs and limbs where needed. It is a positive for those that have severe injuries.
"Do you have field hospitals since you believe in only the strongest survive?" Drani questioned.
"When a skirmish happens we send in Flyers with medical supplies to establish a triage on site and rotate the wounded to the nearest hospital as we can. Dedicate hospitals in the field are buit targets to the others that are our enemies; they see them as stationary targets and will attack them like any other field installation so we only make the field hospitals when required." Vreetch explained. "WHy put unarmed medical staff at risk waiting for a fight that may or may not happen rather than go out when needed and leave when it is over so not to be another victim of the battle?"
"As physicians of the Federation, of Starfleet," Arnon said. "Doctor Drani and I are honor bound to provide medical aid to those in need. Sometimes even the strong need a little help to survive so they can be strong another day. Security can be provided for field hospitals. There is an element of danger but medical professionals can be strong, too, and can survive and have survive in field hospitals. I did, for a very long time at that. Barring sudden shifts in the battlefield, field hospitals are normally placed to the rear in more secure locations. With proper security precautions, they can survive even artillery and aerospace attacks."
"If only the strong survive? At what point do you offer medical aid to wound rather than to tell them to ignore the wound or pain?" Drani questioned.
"I see now what this hypocritical oath you swore to as doctors; but we are civilized people and render aid to any that need it. We do not turn them away by judging the size of the wound." Vreetch said it their defense. "I do remind you that you are dealing with one who is of the same profession as you claim to be, so I would not be talking down to you and expect you to do the same. " He said coldly.
"We meant no offense," Arnon said. "We are merely curious. We are interested in the way you do things and are attempting to understand how they might relate to how we do things."
"Your Federation is focused on war?" He replied. "It seems that all you wish to know is how we medically handle war. It sounds like you are very into war yourselves, but we are not, we hate war, it destroys both sides."
"I am merely trying to understand your medical philosophy. Other species such as the Capellans and Klingons believe also in only the strong survive and detest medical treatments. I meant no disrespect," she said with a slight bow.
The two doctors had clearly over played their hands. Frankly, Arnon should have known better. He should have tried to draw the Jenefran doctor out more slowly, but he was a physician and counselor, not a spy. Much of his job involved asking tough questions and seeing what happened. In this case, it had provoked a strong response that would not be helpful in achieving the Commodore's goals. Arnon tried another tack.
"I am a physician," Arnon said. "And I have practiced in several fields. I currently practice as a psychiatrist, a physician who sees to the mental and emotional health of his patients. Do you have physicians who practice in this field? We offer outpatient treatment for those who are not a danger to themselves or others. For those whose behavior causes us to have safety concerns, either for the patient themselves or for the people around them, we offer inpatient treatment in a clinical setting. This can be what might be called a 'mental hospital' that specializes in this kind of treatment, or perhaps just a ward dedicated to mental and emotional health in a larger hospital that also treats other health related issues. Do you offer something similar to your people?"
