367 words; about a 2 minute read

Mission: Shadow Dance
Location: T'Pral's Quarters
Timeline: Following "Engineering Engineers"

ON:

T'Pral, finding a quiet moment following her tour of the Jeneferan power systems, sat at the terminal in her quarters. "Computer, begin personal log." She adjusted her seat slightly to perfectly center her face in the screen. Not due to any vanity, but simply to make it easier to focus on her words and not her position in the frame.

"Husband," she began. All of her logs began such, though they never were sent to Commander S'Tras. It gave her a sense of... normalcy to the conversation.

"We are orbiting a planet petitioning for Federation membership. Most parties seem... amiable to the idea, where I have reservations. I am not concerned with their technology level, it is adequate. I did not see evidence of prohibited materials, however that does not discount the possibility that they are very good at disguising them. Regardless, my assignment was to provide an initial evaluation, which Commodore York has now. A more detailed analysis will be performed by Federation investigators if the petition is recommended by the Commodore.

"My reservations stem more from what they are not telling us. From what I can perceive, there are two powers vying for control of the planet. Whether this has erupted in open conflict is not currently clear. Tensions are obvious, even if the Jeneferans attempt to hide it with ceremony and presentation. It remains to be seen, however, how this will play out and affect their petition.

"My department is operating adequately. I admit, I am still adapting to such a... diverse crew. I will continue to compare them to the T'Kumbra Engineers, who were most efficient. The varied species aboard the Calypso allow their emotions and interpersonal relationships to-"

She paused as her commbadge chirped, summoning her to the transporter room. Her expression tightened for a brief moment before she focused back on the terminal to wrap up her log.

"Husband, I anticipate our planned joint leave on Vulcan in a year's time. It will be agreeable to see you once again. Computer, end log and file."

Her log complete, T'Pral stood and exited her quarters to see what she was needed for.

OFF:

Lt T'Pral
