Point of View
Location: Captain's Ready Room
Captain's Log: Stardate 66353.47
For the past four days, the ship has been under the influence of what we now believe to be a non-corporeal entity infecting the computer system. At random, systems failed, then suddenly started working again. The holomatrix has been shut down after a series of misadventures including a giant worm eating people in Milliways, a jealous chef attacking the doctor, a pirate ship firing its canons at children in the arboretum, and Daleks attempting to exterminate crew in the cargo bays. We now believe this to be the entity "exploring" its newfound home and learning how it functions. It does not seem to be aware of the life aboard the ship as there has been no attempts to make any sort of contact.
The engines failed at the same time the computer malfunctioned. At first, we believed it was part of the overall problem, but with the help of Fleet Engineering and our own Lieutenant Hale we now know it to be the result of passing through a cosmic string. Lieutenant Hale believes we picked up the non-corporeal entity there as well.
While the ship was without power, Master Sergeant Mangalia and his pilots were the ships eyes and ears, keeping a watchful eye for anyone who wished to take advantage of our vulnerable position.
Thanks to a steam engine picked up a few years ago life support remains unaffected and most of the ship is back under control.
Doctor Drani, Lieutenant Hale and several of the senior staff are working with the EMH, who appears to be uniquely aware of the odd behavior in the main computer. It is my hope that with her help, we can make first contact and return our hitchhiker to its proper home.
Unfortunately, this has delayed our arrival at Jenefra and I fear the situation there will soon become critical if we are to render aid and prevent a potential genocide.
Although my crew as a whole has done an exceptional job with a difficult situation, special commendations go to Commander Munich, for not only doing an exceptional job with communications, but also acting as my XO, Lieutenant Hale, Chief Science Officer, for her work discovering the cosmic string, Master Sergeant Leroy Mangalia, Flight Leader, for his quick thinking, Lieutenant Drani, Chief Medical Officer, for her work treating the wounded, and Lieutenant Barak, Chief Counselor for keeping everyone's spirits up.
