1,148 words; about a 6 minute read

Mission: Shadow Dance
Location: Star ship ferrying Nhallia

ON

Newmark was diligent; he had packed what he thoguht she might need aside from her clothes; seen to the quarters on a fast ship to Risa. He had to ask if his mother had not been involved as the ship delayed 8 hours to allow Nhallia to board. THe cabin was not overly large but there were more pillows and such to help her be comfortable.

Newmark had carried the baggage on a hover board.

"Deluxe accommodations this round Love." Newmark chuckled. "I even hear they have a real cook."

"Not that I'll need a chef. Probably won't be able to eat a single thing," Nhallia said with a sigh. She looked at the bags and wondered how she was ever going to handle them all herself even for a short way to disembark on Risa. She pressed her lips together firmly and stopped herself from asking just how long he was hoping she would be gone- it looked like he'd packed enough for a six month trip!

"Not to worry, Mother will make sure you can eat; who do you think taught me the trick?" He winked. "I just wish this was a trip for two but too many injuries and reports to be done. I will be there a couple of weeks before the baby is due. It seems since you are carrying the baby you get a lot more time." He winked.

Nhallia started to scowl and her fingers actually did start to twitch and say that it was in fact all HIS fault she was now a useless, ill, basket-case who was being packed off so she'd be out of the way while everyone else got important work done. Thankfully she was interrupted before she got out a word or two.

"There she is! You didn't think you'd get out of here without saying good-bye, did you?" Stevie's cheerful voice called out and she ran up to them almost breathlessly, Kit easily following close behind.

"Can't get anything past Security I see." Newmark joked and started to put the luggage in her cabin while the girls came up.

"If you think we miss anything when it comes to our own, you're nuts," Kit agreed and she carefully slid an arm around Nhallia's shoulders and silenced her still twitching fingers. "Take a deep breath," she murmured, knowing that Nhallia had been having real trouble keeping her temper lately.

Stevie meanwhile started to help unload as she babbled cheerfully. "You're so lucky, Nhallia. I know it's not a REAL vacation or anything, but you do get to go spend a couple months or Risa being spoiled and pampered by your in-laws. I'm sure you'll find some redeeming moments every now and then."

"Do not forget Doc is all but on call for her; she is family and he will not have some other 'bumpkin' doing his job." Newmark laughed. "Though I think the closer to the due date the more Mother will try to get you to move into her living quarters for total access to the spas."

Nhallia's eyes narrowed. "If I didn't know better, I'd say you were trying to get me out of the way. Sending me to Risa, and then even clearing me out of the house there." The words which any other day would have been a joke didn't come out anything near it today. They weren't... quite... suspicious. She wasn't really accusing him of anything.

But Nhallia did have a tendency to get jealous. Her friends, and her husband, knew that. And in her current irrational state....

"When I get to Risa, your side is the only place I will be." He said without looking away or anything. "Of course living near the spas will be a treat even for me, I think I might get you a little relaxed in them or if you like the hammock at the house is equally fine with me so long as you are there."

"I want to be HOME," Nhallia insisted.

"And that's exactly where you are going," Kit reminded her. "You're going home to rest and relax. If they move you somewhere you don't want to be, that would just defeat the whole purpose of you even leaving the ship. You know that Veda and Doc won't do anything to jeopardize your health; there's not going to be a problem with you staying at the beach house."

Stevie sighed dramatically. "Yep, going to the beach house. Doc, are you SURE you don't have a single good-looking doctor massage therapist brother with a house on the beach on Risa? I mean, you would tell me if you did, right? Wouldn't be hiding him from me?" she teased.

"No, I do not have any other siblings." Newmark smiled. "I suppose Doc and mother will have to be there for you in the Master Spa Bath at the house." Newmark said realizing his wife was seriously getting worked up. "PLus Mother does not have the ocean to lull you to relax." He smiled. "Do you want me to send word to your father or do you want to have that honor?"

Nhallia took a deep breath. "I'll call him once I'm safely tucked away on Risa. It's least I can do," she said with what she hoped was a brave smile. She wasn't looking forward to telling her dad that she was being put on bed rest. She was sure he would find a way to place the blame for that on her diet or her career or who knew what. And then of course he would compare it her mother's pregnancy somehow, which she was getting awfully tired of hearing about.

But she nodded and said it again, a little firmer this time. "I'll call him."

Newmark knew his wife and that sigh was not something he found he could ignore; he went up and put his arms around her for a few seconds. "You have family around you ; Mother and Doc will probably love you to death as my Mother is so looking forward to having you there." He backed away a bit. "And if you tell mother you want to be alone she will not come to the house; it has always been a safe haven for us both and will continue that way."

The smile she gave him now was small but it was real. "I know. I love your mother. Depending on how strict the bedrest Doc orders is, I might have very little choice about how much help and company I have though. I'm just... It's unnerving to have so little control. It scares me," she admitted quietly. Nhallia was the kind of person who got angry when she was scared or hurt. And when Nhallia got angry she lashed out, often by throwing things, though she had kept that in check for the past few years....
