Mission:
Point of View
Location: Sickbay
ON
Ronnie had been so busy settling back into the routine of the Calypso that she hadn't taken the time to go to sickbay and get a checkup. But now that the mission was over, the person behind the attacks on the ship was caught, and there was some down time, she decided now was a good time to make sure she was cleared for active duty.
She walked into sickbay and stopped at the main desk. "Hi. Is there a doctor available for a physical?"
Helga smiled at the new arrival. "Just a moment, I will see if the doctor is free."
The nurse walked into the back and knocked on the doctor's door. "Doctor, are you free to do a physical?"
Drani looked up from a PADD containing the latest issue of Starfleet Medical Journal and smiled at Helga. During the last mission, both Helga and Dr. Newman proved invaluable. "Sure."
Standing up from her desk, she set the PADD onto the desk and exited her office. "Send her back to Bio-bed Two."
"Yes, doctor," Helga said, turning back to the reception area.
"The doctor will see you now," she told Ronnie. "Please, come this way."
She led Ronnie to a biobed and waved to it with her hand. "The doctor will be here in a moment."
Victoria smiled as she approached Ronnie. "Hello, I'm Doctor Drani, the Chief Medical Officer. How are you today?"
"Hi!" Ronnie replied cheerfully. "I'm good, for the most part. I've been on assignment for the past few months and haven't had a chance to get a checkup."
"Well then, welcome back aboard," Drani replied, picking up a medical tricorder and activating it. "Where were you on assignment at?"
"It was an Intel mission. We were under cover on the NightShade," Ronnie said.
"Ah. Meaning if you tell me, you'll have to kill me," Victoria smiled as she ran through the standard medical scan.
"I was just there to help Damion," Ronnie replied with a smile. "I still don't know everything about the assignment, and I was there."
The tricorder then beeped as it registered an anomaly. Victoria's face grew serious as she tapped a few commands into the tricorder as it rescanned the anomaly. "If I may ask, how long ago did you last have intercourse?"
Ronnie's cheeks grew rosy. "Last night, why?"
Victoria looked up from the tricorder with a smile. "Well, it appears that you are pregnant and the fetus is older than 24 hours."
A series of emotions flashed through Ronnie. Surprise, concern, misgiving, and then joy. "Really? Pregnant?" She put a hand over her belly. "Wow, I can't believe it. I mean, wow. I have to tell Damion." She looked up at the doctor, a broad smile on her face. "Is the baby okay?"
Victoria smiled and nodded. "Everything appears normal with the fetus. It's still too soon to determine the baby's sex. Were you and Damion trying for a child?"
"No. We haven't even talked about it," Ronnie admitted. "I hope he'll be happy about it. I think he will."
"I do too," Victoria smiled. "I want to schedule another appointment in a few weeks to keep monitoring the baby's growth. Until then, if you have any questions or concerns, please stop by." She deactivated the tricorder and set it down on a nearby table. "You're otherwise in excellent health. Are you ok with all of this?"
Ronnie nodded. "Yeah. It'll take some getting used to, but I'm okay with it."
"That's good to hear. You're free to go, and congratulations, mom," Victoria smiled.
"Thank you!" Ronnie couldn't help grinning again as she slipped off the biobed. She could hardly wait to tell Damion the news.
