Mission: Of Gods and Men
Location: Calypso

"Communications still nothing past short range, Deflector Dish operational, sensors coming on linein the projected ten minutes." The communications officer reported. "All Hull breeches are shored up and under full repair and the Fire damage Control teams report all fires contained." She continued. "Medical reports a majority of only minor injuries, they are on the final cases of more significant injuries."

[Intelligence]

"Intel is roughed up, but unharmed," Jayna reported to the bridge. She was still working with science on whatever sent them here and hoped that by letting the bridge know they were fine her department would be able to focus on the task at h and.

[Bridge]

Galen finished her round of the bridge in short order. The crew was in good shape, and she had only needed to dispense care to one stubborn individual. He had a large bruise, that while no serious at all, was rather painful. She treated him with a dermal re-generator. Finished, she turned back to Commander Tate. "All finished here Commander. Permission to return to sick bay?"

"Of course crewman. Thank you for your assistance." Tate replied giving the EMH a respectful bow with her head.

Galen left the bridge the way she had come in, via the turbo lift. Honestly she would of preferred to simply transfer back to the sickbay, but she felt it best to walk out. Besides, she needed to return the tricorder.

[Sickbay]

Drani looked up as a nurse came to her side and then glanced at Dr. Newman. She knew she would need his help and after all he was the head surgeon in the Medical Department. She hadn't meant to take his duties. "Dr. Newmark, I could use your help here." She said as she brought up the 3D holographic scan of the engineer. Several pieces had punctured the man's lungs, upper intestines. Luckily the shrapnel missed the heart by mere millimeters.

Newmark pass the patient that he was patching up to the nurse, he went to grab the specialized gloves he wore for the six fingers on each hand and gowned up quickly. Moving to the opposite side of the operating table Newmark gazed at the now open chest and stomach area.

"I have done neurosurgery so I can take the intestinal damage and carefully get the shards out of there if you like while you concentrate on the lungs, we will need to get the internal bleeding under control first before we can really get to the repairing of damage I think Doctor Drani?"

Drani nodded as she transferred the holographic display to a nearby large monitor. "Let's do it, then." She handed Dr. Newman a cauterizer which would stop the bleeding faster than a tissue regenerator.

Newmark had seen many wounds in his career; this one was no exception in being serious, he worked as 'Doc' and his training had instructed. The importance of stopping the bleeding by sealing the source of the hole. Back on Risa Ol' Doc used to say Doctors are just biological plummer for the most part. It was their job to keep he healthy blood flowing. This is just what Newmark believed was happening now, this man had a few uncontrolled leaks and after the patch job things would be easier.

The small lacerations; under closer observation they looked not unlike knife slashes; something that Newmark had seen too many of in his past and were almost automatic for him to repair. He could feel the biological energy from the body's resistance and the easing of the muscles as blood flow was restored to normal.

The two doctors went to work on saving the man's life.

In the older days; the 20th century and before, the damage would require removal of long bits of intestines and re'sewing' of the tissues to repair. Modern advances had cut that proportion greatly but not totally eliminated it. The multiple incisions from the shrapnel had done a number on the man's insides. While Newmark is a good surgeon he could not work real miracles; the damage was beyond total repair of the intestines. There were some portions that were too mangled and twisted to repair. The man would lose about a meter of intestine; not a large portion but having to 'check the plumbing' and make sure no other twists or breaks threatened the man was a slow process. Using the touch he had been blessed with made it easier to follow the natural blood flow and after a time the damaged portions were repaired; the lost sections removed and the patient would never notice the small bit of missing 'plumbing' as there are ample amounts to compensate.

"Damage repaired in this end." Newmark told the doctor, he scanned the surrounding tissue to assure the repairs were done and the body did not sat to reject the suchers that would dissolve naturally once the wounds to the inner organs healed.

Drani had managed to repair the man's lungs, cauterizing the edges around the shrapnel before extracting them to minimize bleeding and then running the regenerator to seal the punctures. As she saw Newmark finish, she glanced up at the holo-display and saw that all wounds had been repaired and managed to breathe a sigh of relief. "Thank you, Dr. Newmark. I'm glad you were here," she said with a smile as she set the regenerator down. "Close him up, while I check on the other patients."

"Of course Doctor." Newmark said as he started to repair the incisions used to gain access to the wounds during the operation, working slowly to get the best regeneration of the tissue.

Galen entered the sickbay and stored her tridorder. She saw the doctors just finishing the surgery and smiled to herself, glad to have such fine medical staff aboard the Calypso. Looking around, she took in the entire room at once, then crossed to the nearest bed and reviewed the patient's chart. He was resting, recovering from a punctured lung and a head trauma. She adjusted his medication slightly to allow his to rest more comfortably.

Helga came up to the EMH. "Welcome back." She handed the hologram a stack of PADDs. "Here you go. They are in order of importance. Most are minor, fortunately. I will go make some tea." With the EMH back and the surgery over, it would only be a matter of time before everyone had been treated. At least for now. It was very nice to watch the efficiency of the department. Very nice indeed.
