To some extent Jonathan was excited cause if this place was similar to Roman culture back home, this would be his first experience in person to anything as close as he could get to history. He was an avid reader of history and to him, he was in wonderland at the moment.
"May I assist in your browsing?" the plump man asked.
[NEW]
Jonathan looked up and saw the man smiling and in a good mood as he stopped looking over his tabulae. His clothes were similar to the other mercatores in that they were ordinary and somewhat worn, but still looked good enough to be respectable. If Jonathan had to guess he was a pleb.
He gave the man a big smile, "On this fine day, I believe it's put me in a good mood to buy something for my loved one," he said in a joyous tone.
"Oh yes, it's about time we got some sun here," the plump man responded. "Say, you're accent is a bit strange, you aren't from around here, are you?" He asked.
Damn, there it was Jonathan thought to himself. It was only a matter of time until someone picked up the bizarre nature of the away team. "No, no, you're right. What a good ear you have," Jonathan answered. "We're just visiting for a bit," Jonathan waved his hand towards the rest of the away team. "We thought we'd stop by after our long travels from afar."
"From where abouts?" He asked Jonathan.
"Um, well..." Jonathan quickly looked over the surroundings and saw some hills to the east and remembering the limited scans they had there were some smalls patches of activity several hundred kilometers. "It's quite far, over past the hills to the east there. You may not have heard of it."
The man looked over where Jonathan talked about, "Oh! Do you mean Junnagro? That's what I thought. You look and sound like you're from there. By the Gods, that's a lot of paces to travel, but that's wonderful! You couldn't have picked a better place to have stopped by my friend! Here, here, let me assist you with anything you need since you're foreign to these parts," he said in such a friendly manner as he grabbed a simple device that looked like an abacus of some sort. He moved to the front of the cart next to Jonathan with a glowing smile.
Jonathan weakly smiled knowing he dodged a big potential problem that could have outed the team before they had even had a chance to start their investigation. "Thank you, I'd like that very much," as he turned his attention back to the items for sale.
Spartacus was drawn to the scents of flowers and spices and all sorts of things; she had some things in her pouch; small gems that might be worth a bit here in an exchange rate. they were trinkets given to her along her travels and she dearly wanted some fine scents; maybe a bath oil that would lull her senses in a hot drawn tu of water. Her smile was growing in brightness as is her eyes in the sparkling. She had a good sining voice and having to be so 'beloved' by customers in teh past Spartacus kept an ear to 'How' the dialects of these parts sounded and under her breath tried to mimic them. Her empathy was allowing the auras of all those around her to be like a rainbow, passions and hopes and ddreams and even the darker colors of greed were among them.
The Lilac was just ahead of her; the smell close to crushed roses and even what might be called Mir from Earth lay on a counter in front of her.
So pretty." Spartacus remarked as she took the tops of bottles lightly to get a good sense of the contents. "You are blessed with the sense of knowing your delicate scents." She complemented. "I have traveled widely and few places have I had such relish in the scents." SHe looked into the eyes of the woman atthe counter, into the gateway of her soul to listen for what ambiant auras came from her.
"I thank you." The woman said with a cherry smile. "WHat can I interest you in?"
"Scents for my skin and bath oils with something to just relax while some strong hands knead them into me would be a delight."
"I know just the things you wish." The woman began showing very specific bottles to Spartacus, the kind for the knowing customers only.
Illise wandered past Spartacus to another vendor several stalls away. The man had rich clothing and a slightly smug look on his face. He was having a rather drawn-out discussion with a customer, so Illise idled by his stall for a while to eavesdrop. They talked about local gossip mostly: "Had you heard about the Governor's daughter? It had been said she was caught with the Senator from Tericia, or maybe he was from Grendela, who could say for sure. Did you know that the High Priest would be in town this high moon? Oh, you did? Well he's bringing a new talisman for the temple"...and so on. Eventually the customer paid for his purchases and left to continue shopping.
"Hello there miss, how can I help you?" He turned to Illise after tucking his coins away.
Illise smiled warmly at him, "I couldn't help but notice the fine nature of your wares sir." She said in a businesslike tone. The man drew himself up a bit at the compliment.
"You will not find any finer, that's for sure. I only deal in the rarest of fragrances from the most distant places. They are the purest samples, and..." he paused briefly to look her over, taking note of her markings as well as her clothing, "the most expensive."
