Mission:
Of Gods and Men
Location: Fighter bay
Timeline: [BACKPOST] After handing the Commodore a grease smeared PADD
ON:
Leroy walked into the fighter bay after (gotta add what ever Sam does to me so ignore this part for a few seconds.) Looking at the still in pieces Scorpion Fighter he was having to rebuild, he started looking around for the Engineering Chief. He also looked to see if anyone else was running around willing to help. "Phoenix! You want something to do?"
Phoenix popped her head out of her fighter where she'd been doing some detailing work. "What do you have in mind?" she asked.
"Well since you decided to use my old fighter as a diversionary photon torpedo, I need to build a new one. You in?"
A grin spread across Phoenix' face. "Sure. And for the record, your old fighter was dead. I simply...re-purposed it." She pulled a cloth out of her back pocket and wiped her hands as she walked over to Leroy. "What do you have in mind?"
Chris, holding his engineering kit, entered the fighter bay, and looked around. He saw who he was looking for quickly, and approached them. "So, you need help rebuilding something?" Chris asked, looking at the two of them.
"The more the merrier," Phoenix said cheerfully. "Hi, I'm Talia. Leroy is the one needing help," she added, nodding to Mangalia.
"Yea, my good XO here decided to use my old fighter as a torpedo," he said looking at the craft he had been trying to rebuild. "So I've been trying to build a new one from the parts and all that we had saved up from when I got here."
"Hey, it wasn't my fault," Phoenix insisted.
"You can handle the blame game later. Right now, we have a fighter to rebuild." Chris replied, as he looked at them. "So, I assume you have an idea of what you'd like?" He asked.
"Ever see a Scorpion Fighter?" Leroy said pointing at the dilapidated attempt of rebuilding his fighter. "Sort of that shape, but better and not so much of my mess ups."
"I've seen vids," Phoenix said. "That's a bit of a challenge, but sounds like fun."
Leroy looked at his failed attempt, shaking his head. "Lieutenant Hartley, where do we begin?"
Chris thought for a moment. "Alright, first of all we need to start on designing the outer shell. We get the size right first, then we can fit everything in. I've always felt Scorpion Fighters were a little...haphazard, at least with the inside workings. The Romulans always slap together something that uses twice the power for half the effect. Never liked their tech, except for cloaking devices." Chris said. "And them I've known about since I was a kid. Doubt we'll get approval for one of them anyway."
Phoenix shrugged. "On this ship, you never know."
Coming through the doors a lone figure entered with pack slung over his shoulder; the human male wondered up to the group. He saw the mound of parts lying about and a sly Grin grew on his face. The red of his hair was the first sight to be hold and teh freckles of his face aroudnd the soft green eyes. "I canna see that he were not lyin' about a challenge." The man whistled. "I kinna heard that there was a project to build something new and I hatta volunteer." He Scotsman accent was not as pronounced as it could but he did speak slower to be understood. "Me name is Dannon, Patrick Sean Dannon." He looked at the obvious pilots. "I dabble a little in special projects, if ya need a hand I am willin to help ya?"
Phoenix looked from the new arrival to Leroy and then to the Scorpion. "I think we can use all the help we can get at this point."
Leroy coughed apologetically, before looking nervously at what he had been trying to create. "Yea, I'm no engineer. I'll take all the help I can get at this point."
With a deft hand and obvious practice the satchel came off his shoulder and was in place in a smooth motion.
"I hav ta ask..." Dannon looked around with a smile. "To what level canna each of ya use tools and read Diagrams?"
Phoenix looked offended. "Of course we can use the standard tools and read a basic diagram."
"I meant no disrespect to a pretty lass like yourself, I jus like ta know where we stand so we can work together better and i am the new Lad in all this?"
"I try to make sure all my men know how to do daily maintenance and handle the tools for repairs so we're not so reliant on Engineering," Leroy said rubbing the back of his head in a nervous gesture. "I'm not so sure about blueprints and diagrams."
"That is where a nice gent like me self comes in; I can offer guidance when needed and I do swing mean set ah tools." Dannon smiled. "ANy complex things you hav a question about I can handle for ya as an Engineer." He bow slightly. "Just the little things mind you, a little hand here and there."
"I think what the boss wants will take more than reading a simple diagram," Phoenix said. "He'll want modifications."
Chris frowned and looked at Dannon. "As for me, I have some experience with tools and diagrams. Not too much though, just enough for me to be the Chief Engineer." He said, with a brief glare.
"Light reading then?" Dannon joked. "I remember me grandfather talking about the old days; he said that "Old School never goes out of practice." Dannon laughed. "KNowing what all the team can do is a good thing. That way you cna dlegate the resourtces correctly."
Chris looked at them, a little annoyed and his pride slightly out of place. "By the time I'm done, everyone's going to want one of these." Chris promised. "I've been working on some new tech ideas, micro torpedo improvements, and I might be able to give you a rudimentary cloak." He said, as he began recalling the inner workings of the ones his father had...appropriated years ago.
"Really? Sounds promising," Phoenix replied. "Since you two gentlemen are the experts, we'll follow your lead."
