Mission: Deadly Diplomacy
Location: Intelligence Labs

Once Commodore York had left to speak with the Panarians Jethro and Jennifer decided to move to the next stage of the case. Since Alexandra Vance's death there had been three specific incidents on the Calypso which were believed to have been caused by Gul Morat. The first incident was the fire within Alexandra Vance's quarters. The initial report had stated the fire was started by an individual tossing a lighter onto the bed. Security nor intelligence had been able to identify the individual beyond the fact that the intruder was technologically savvy in being able to open the door without leaving footprints and by height and figure was presumably a woman.

"That's simple. Morat was just trying to destroy all that remained of Alexandra. It's brash, daring, simple. Her exact M.O." Jennifer commented reading over the report.

"This message was undoubtedly directed towards Amarylis." Jethro retorted. "Any idea whom the arsonist is?"

Jennifer shook her head from side to side. "Negative. Whoever it was covered their tracks. The code used to hack the door was self-deleting in that accessing the logs caused the computer to wipe the memory. Internal sensor readings of the room were unable to identify anything about the perpetrator. Something was masking them.

"An intelligence agent? Starfleet?" Jethro asked.

"Maybe, but it's hard to tell. Whoever did this had intimate knowledge of the ship's software, could have come from Ops as well." Jennifer replied.

"We should look into both departments. However most of the intelligence team is deployed. How many people have left the ship since the incident?" Jethro questioned.

"Thaddius Storm, would-be First Officer, Nurse Jamieson, Yeoman Cox, Lieutenant Commander Serena Vance, the Cardassian Ambassador, Doctor Ilse Frost, CMO, Korok Lukk, lounge manager, Lieutenant Roberta Andrews, Chief Science Officer," Sam ticked off. "Three of those are known spies, but I doubt they're responsible for the fire."

Jethro turned to his console comparing the internal sensor dat of the intruder to the individuals Sam mentioned. He made one elimination right off the bat but scanned her anyways. "You'd be correct. None of those individuals match the specs of the individual whom started that fire. This leads me to believe the person you are looking for is still on this ship and most likely works in your operations department."

"I concur." Jennifer said simply looking to York.

"On the ship, or close by," Sam agreed. "Gul Morat -- or someone -- has found it far too easy to get on and off this ship by bypassing all securities and sensors."

"Chances are your infiltrator is onboard allowing Morat to move back and forth uninhibited if she has even been so bold as to do so." Jennifer chimed in.

"She's so bold," Sam countered wryly. "You haven't been here long enough, Commander, but it won't take you long to realize that we have become one of Morat's pet projects."

"I realize that." Jennifer said countering her tone. "The question is whether she has been bold enough to 'play with her pets' in person or through proxy." It was the first time Jennifer had shown any type of adversarial tone in her time here. She was trying to help Commodore York but it seemed she wasn't quite accepting of that help, or she still didn't trust Jennifer.

"Trust is earned, not given," Sam reminded her. Jennifer's thoughts were far to loud to be ignored, and Sam chose not to ignore them in the hopes that Jennifer, as an intelligence officer, would be reminded that mental shouting is never good when you're around Betazoids.

Jethro chuckled at Sam's comments knowing exactly what had happened. "Good job rookie."

Jennifer scoffed. "I'm sorry ma'am. It won't happen again." She stated quite flatly.

Sam sighed. Maybe Jennifer would not work out after all. She took herself and her job a little too seriously.

Sam pulled out a PADD and set it on the desk next to Jethro. "The Panerians gave us 24 hours to retrieve the data from their satellite. At which point they would appreciate it if we would leave as it is making the inhabitants nervous."

Jethro looked over to Jennifer indicating to her with his eyes. "You're up."

"Right." Jennifer nodded taking the PADD. "It will take me roughly three hours to download the data." She reported as she began making preparations.

"All right. I'll leave the two of you then," Sam said. "I would like a copy of the data when it's downloaded. And please keep me informed." She was pretty sure Commander Tate would prefer that Sam not be there looking over her shoulder for the next three hours. And Sam did have other work to do, although she was eager to get a resolution in this situation.

"Of course ma'am. Thank you." She said courteously returning to her console.
