Sam tapped her combadge. "York to Newmark."
=^= Newmark here, what can I do for you ma'am? =^= Newmark replied.
"I have reason to suspect that your new nurse -- the one that helped with the report on Sergeant Beckinsale -- may not have the ship's best interests at heart. Have you noticed any odd behavior from her? Lurking around, taking notes when she shouldn't be? that sounds odd, I know, but I have reason to ask."
"She was quiet and seemed to always be puttering about." Newmark said. "I thought she might be in charge of stores or something, she was always checking inventory and the patient's needs." Newmark thought. "Come to think of it I never really saw her do any work about the Sick Bay I was going to question her but as I am new at the acting as a Chief that I had other things on my mind... sorry Ma'am?"
Sam nodded. It fit with her Yeoman. "I want you to check the test results for Beckinsale. I don't trust any of the results. Also check Nurse Jamison's activities. I have reason to question her activities on the Calypso."
"As you wish ma'am; I will make a through check and get a fresh sample to run the test personally." Newmark assured.
[LATER]
Sam had time to get herself a cup of sweet carrot tea before Doctor Newmark was due to arrive. She had a feeling this meeting would go no better then her previous one.
Newmark walked through the door with a PADD in his hand; he had been working to get the toxin's out of a patient's bloodstream; not an easy thing to do with someone having a long term additcion to the drugs.
"Commodore, sorry I was detained, Doctor's hours are not their own, patients do not seem to have much ... patents when they are sick."
"That's fine. Do you have the information?" she asked.
"Several things that I have uncovered that might be up to your suspicians." Newmark transferred the data from his investigation. "The first is that some other sample must have been induced in the testing of Beckinsale did not match the DNA ; seems the computer was adapted to accept the new name title in the sample records. It was a 'purposed typo error' as far as the computer is concerned." Newmark continued. "The dose that were on the real hair folicle tests were heavy doses given to get the desired reactions in the body." He looked up. "The person who administered them knew the drill and how much a body could take."
"That's enough to start proceedings," Sam replied. "And to bring the nurse in for questioning."
"Also there are a few things that I find a bit disconcerting." He brought out more data. "It would seem that in trying to follow the report trails to verify they are all filed and closed I came acros a small portion of the reports that were sent to Star Fleet Command rather than Star Fleet Medical. They were logged by the former CMO's identity but the routing was wrong." He looked up. "I am not a hacker so my tracing ability is limited and I should think passing it to the Intel department might glean better results; I am at the moment unable to trace this stream of data past reception un the Star Fleet Command Database. But te reports continued even after the former CMO was released and before I shut down the access ma'am. The times of these reports were also keyed to times when Nurse Jamison had accessed the Computer Network, at least I can say she was logged on during those times."
Sam swore in ancient Romulan. She was going to have Intel look at every single communication coming to or leaving the ship for more spies. She tapped on her combadge. "Nurse Jamison, would you please come to my ready room immediately?"
"On my way ma'am." Jamison replied over the comm.
Within minutes the nurse found herself in the ready room with the Chief Medical Officer and the CO. "How can I help you?" she asked cheerfully.
"Please, have a seat," Sam said, indicating the chair next to Newmark. "We have a few questions for you."
"Of course." she replied with a bright smile gingerly setting herself into the seat, crossing her legs and moving her body about to get comfortable.
Sam watched her for a moment before speaking. "Why are you on the Calypso?"
"I was assigned her ma'am." Jamison replied.
"By whom? And what were you assigned to do?" she asked.
"Starfleet medical? To be a nurse?" Jamison replied curiously wondering as to what the nature of the questioning was.
"Doctor Newmark has re-evaluated Sergeant Beckinsale. It seems someone altered the report on her drug use. While it is true she has high levels of cocaine in her system, she has not been using it for a long period of time. You were the one who took car of tht report, Nurse," Sam said quietly.
"I did. Once the scans were conducted I simply took what was reported by the computer and gave it to Doctor Newmark." she replied calmly.
"Not according to the data Doctor Newmark uncovered. It shows you logging in as the CMO and making alterations at the same time the CMO was elsewhere, logged in. You also sent files to Starfleet Command without permission." Sam glanced down at the PADD. "According to the data, there's enough here to send you to a penal planet for a good decade. I believe they have need of nurses there. I'm not so sure you'd be able to do any good as one of hte inmates, though."
"And what evidence do you have to support this?" Jamison asked.
Newmark brought up the list of Logins and the cross references between the Nurse and the CMO codes being used . "As you can see the timing of the Logs are exacting with the CMO codes." He looked up. "Which are changed under the new management." He nod. "With some Computer Core follow ups and the path works that are used." He brought up the routings. "What tipped me off was why would a Chief Medical Officer sending information to Star Fleet COmmand rather than Star Fleet Medical. After that it was a process to back track and find the source and who was sending that information." He slid the PADD for teh Nurse to look at. "You can see it for yourself, though If I were better you would not have gotten so much out."
"I'll be happy to confine you to the brig while Intel combs the logs for more information if you prefer," Sam said.
"Of course ma'am, do what you feel needs to be done." Jamison replied simply.
"Very well. You are hereby relieved of duty and confined to the brig pending formal charges and a possible court martial," Sam replied.
"I have the data forwarded to the Security and Intel Chiefs as well ma'am." Newmark reported. "I was under the impression these facts impacted both departments ma'am?"
"They do indeed," Sam assured him. "By the time we're finished with Nurse Jamison we'll know enough information to station her on a mining colony with one supply run a year. She should appreciate being the only medical person under those conditions."
Sam turned to the nurse. "You have two options. One, you are relieved of duty and charged with insubordination, falsifying medical records, stealing medical records and spying on a Starfleet officer. You will also be charged as an accessory in the death of Commander Alexandra Vance and the Panerian delegation and treason." Sam paused for the information to sink in. "Or you can cooperate and some of the charges will be dropped. I have enough information to convict you on half a dozen charges. I'm sure Admiral Blackcat can find more. So, it doesn't matter to me if you cooperate or not. It all depends on how long you want to be in that penal colony."
The nurse instantly scowled at Sam furling her brows. "With all due respect Commodore do you think i'm stupid? I know my rights and your bullying tactics won't scare me nor the threat of a JAG whom I am sure can be proven will be carrying too much of a bias to overlook any trial. I minored in Law at Harvard. Sure you can probably get me on obstruction, insubordination and maybe even falsifying medical records, I'll lose my license and be banned from practicing medicine. But espionage? Murder? You don't even who knows responsible let alone who was assisting them. According to you, everyone is a spy now and if you think I am gonna be bullied into making false statements to incriminate myself you are wrong. I think I'll be leaving with Security now Commodore, I have nothing more to say."
"Very well," Sam said. She pressed a button and two security guards walked in to escort the nurse to the brig.
When she was gone, Sam looked over at Newmark. "Keep your eyes and ears open. This is fallout from the Court Martial of Commander Vance. I don't think we've seen the end of it."
