Mission:
Deadly Diplomacy
Location: Amarylis' Quarters
Amarylis lay bored on her couch staring towards the ceiling trying to make sense of what had happened. Not one person had spoken her about anything or tried to get her side of the story. They took everything at face value and undoubtedly we scouring her record digging up her past. Now she was to be locked in her quarters like a caged dog, her years of service and effort meaning nothing. She began to wonder if leaving the drugs were the best decision after all. At least her dealers respected her business.
Her door chime would interrupt her thoughts.
"Enter."
Chief Petty Officer Kara Li entered the room with arms behind her back as she cheerfully waltzed towards Amarylis. "Good day Sergeant Beckinsale, Commodore York asked me to check on you."
"Good, you can tell her i'm not a junkie." Amarylis replied in a groggy voice rubbing her eyes as she attempted to rise from the couch.
"I think we are past the denial stage now Sergeant. It's best you just come clean, admit your problem and face it like a real marine would." the yeoman replied standing over Amarylis looking arrogantly down upon her as if Beckinsale was refuse.
"What do you know about the Marines fleetee?" Amarylis shot back angrily clutching her head as the raised tone of her own voice induced head aches.
"I know they don't go around snorting coke and shooting up innocent civilians." Li responded in an equally sharp and raised tone.
"They weren't innocent civilians." Amarylis responded in a lowered tone calming herself from the initial outburst of anger. "They were mercs and they would have killed the away team. That's why Commander Storm brought me."
"A simple traitor praying on the weak to justify her own fallacies. Have the drugs taken such a strangle hold on you that your mind is warping reality to suit your own twisted conscience? Wake up Sergeant Beckinsale and accept your own inadequacies. Once an addict always an addict!" Kara scolded in a raised tone.
"NO! I am not an addict! I gave this up, I'm being framed." Amarylis shot back equalling the Li's tone.
"Stop with the pity party! I'm not having it and nor is the Commodore. We get it Alexandra died and we all...she's dead. As you as you accept that and your addiction you can begin to heal."
"I want to speak to the Commodore myself." Amarylis demanded changing her posture from horizontal to seated.
Kara raised her index finger waving it back and forth on the knuckle joint. "Tsk Tsk Sergeant. You are not leaving your quarters. Besides the Commodore has more important things to worry about. You are at the bottom of her list."
Amarylis noted her uniform and furled her brows. "I wasn't aware Sirel was allowing her pawns to conduct interrogations solo."
Kara laughed. "Why do I care what Sirel thinks? I am no peon especially not of hers."
"Either way when she finds out...."
"She won't Sergeant." Kara interrupted cautioning Beckinsale. "Because if she does I will erase this entire crew just like Alexandra Vance. The only reason you live is because Morat wishes it."
Amarylis let out a long drawn sigh shaking her head at Kara. "Honey, you just got yourself in business with the devil herself. I don't know what she's holding over you but you need to get out now."
Kara smiled sinisterly approaching Amarylis kneeling down to match the Sergeant's eye level. "I'm the one making the orders now. You know what Morat can do and you know if you make one stupid move I will make good on my promise. Now, what are you going to do?"
Amarylis looked into the woman's eyes seeing the conviction within them. She had no idea what the woman had planned but she knew their was no bluff in those eyes. For the time being she had but one choice. "Exactly what you tell me ma'am." she said in a soft shameful tone.
Kara smiled and retrieved a pouch from her pocket. She placed it in Amarylis' hand and patted her on the back. "If you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours. This will make your pain go away. They may have abandoned you but I won't. Serve us and we will show you undying loyalty."
Amarylis took the pouch and gently emptied it's contents onto the glass table.
Cocaine
"Now be a good girl." Li said motioning her hand towards the substance on the table.
