"Actually my report said unknown residue, slightly oily in texture" Frost said as she turned back to watch the exam and then continued "It was sent to the the lab for analysis among others."
[NEW]
"Might bring up something else?" Newmark said as he was inspected the wound. "This edge was not well honed." He looked up. "The style of the cut was precise; a high level of skill and the angle of entry shows the attacker doing the perfect slash and then twist slightly in the movement for the thrust that killed as a fiishing move." Newmark stood back a bit. "The skill needed to convert from slash to thrust in a killing motion is a very high levelart but from the approximate size I would place the attacker from five foot eight to six foot one. Hard to get precise as the was parrying involved and how much the sowrdsmanship called to a duck makes reading height hard." He stepped closer. The Last victime wqas seated and the thrust is easier to approximate because of the downward thrust, the degree of entry wound puts the attacker in hat height range but ..." He looked at his hands and imagined a blade the wound is... not quite right , something is off?"
"Well I am guessing that the Lieutenant" Frost motioned at Andrews "Is probably not a expert with blades or swords." She glanced at Mira and the Admiral and at the Newmark "I venture to make that assumption based upon the fact that the lieutenant made it sound like she would have used alcohol to clean the blade. You three however, make it sound like you do know about blades. Care to enlighten us further about how one cleans a blade and with what?"
Max spoke up, again his eyes locked on the body. "Close combat training is one of the requirements for an intel office. Only some choose to go into advanced training which breaks down proper ways to hold and use a certain criteria of weapons. This weapon is not in the criteria. Our suspect picked it up in his travels. Probably by a fell officer. Definitely an Andorian. Trained with it. Honed his skills. Was taught, not only how to use it, but also how to maintain it. This weapon meant a lot to him that the condition of it would not be like this. Neither would it be left behind."
"Yes, but close-combat training doesn't usually mean swords," Jayna said. "I learned in the Maquis. It's much easier to pass off a ceremonial blade than a phaser when you're going through planetary security." She grinned at Max. "Then again, I also like close combat weapons."
She turned to the doctor. "What you use depends on what you're trying to do. There are oils for honing a blade, for cleaning it. Alcohol if you want to remove ... bio matter." She shrugged. "Different people have different preferences."
Frost looked thoughtful for a moment but said nothing.
"This blade has been idle, as it was on display." Newmark suggested. "The blade is sharp but from experience I know a blade maintained by a swordsman, this blade has been on a rack, it took more effort and the cut is slightly more torn rather than cut." Newmark looked up. "This blade must have been rushed into combat, the edge had to have some pitting from engagement from the tissue damage around the wound. A well maintained, even my own rapier, would have made a better cut of the tissue."
"We're looking at the pitting," Jayna said. "Just in case there's anything that would point to the murderer. Sometimes bits of DNA and cellular material get stuck in odd places."
Newmark ran the scan and noted something about the blade. " The blade had something else, he scanned the hilt of the blade. "his was an off-handed sword style, the right hand is not the comfortable grip by the pressure on the hilt imprints and the way the blade was used." He looked up . "Why was a south paw using their right hand for these cuts?"
"A very good question," Jayna said, making notes on her PADD. "Is there anything else you've noticed?"
"Officially I have to say that we have found just about all the facts." Newmark put his signature to the report. "Thank you for the assistance Jayna." He looked to the officers witnesses. "I am sorry Officers, that is the end of my report."
