Deadly Diplomacy
Location: York's Ready Room
Timeline: After the reception and before the murder

"It's not what Commodore, it's who...." Amarylis began visibly shaken at even the mention of the person. "Who Alexandra feared is truly the embodiment of evil. A woman so corrupted and filled with hatred I...I don't even know if she has a purpose anymore. I've seen some pretty sick and twisted things in my time, I mean even crime lords, even the BORG have morals. But not her. Some..." Amarylis looked up at York. "Some people just want to see everything burn...."
[NEW]
Sam nodded in understanding. "Yes, they do. Who is this woman?"
Amarylis sighed. She knew Vance and Starfleet Intelligence would forbid her from telling the events of the mission but Vance was dead and she knew she could trust Samantha. If they were going to find out whom was behind this, York needed to know.
"Alexandra wasn't always the ice queen. I didn't know her before but I do know the woman that was your XO....that's not her. What you saw on the planet, when we lost our memories. That's the REAL Alexandra Vance. Years ago Alex and I served on a ship called the Shadowrunner. It was one of intel's deep ops ships. Alex was the Chief Intelligence Officer and I was a sniper. She got sent down to Cardassia Prime to look into some group believed to be trying to reform the Dominion. It was supposed to be recon but I have a feeling she either got too close or was set up. Either way Alex was captured. It had to have been a week before we found her." Amarylis choked on her last words as she fought back tears. The image burned once again as if fighting the ready room to become Amarylis' reality. "That's the day we met." Amarylis said now in tears trembling. "In some Cardassian prison deep below the ground. I heard screams and yelling. You know I volunteered to be on that team as an assaulter. Usually we stay back but not that day. I went kicking in doors and damn it I found the right door. Right on the ground." Amarylis pointed to the center of York's desk as if indicating something on the floor. "Three guards had her cowering in a corner. They were beating her and whipping her. So much blood....I ran in that door and I just started shooting. I don't know how I missed Alex but someone wanted her to live cause I nailed those Cardies good. Killed all three of them before they knew what hit them. Man it felt good, only part of the story I like besides meeting Alex....Alex." Amarylis scoffed. "There she was in the corner curled in a ball. Covered in bruises and blood. She wasn't weeping or anything. She had no clothes on so I gave her my jacket. It's all I had. I told her my name was Amarylis Beckinsale and that I'd help her. I asked her name and that's when she told me her name. We talked a little and I asked her what the Cardies wanted from her. You know what she said?" Amarylis snickered.
"They wanted her damn name. A whole week of getting beaten black and blue and the stubborn girl wouldn't even give them her name. We rushed her outta that facility, but you see that's where our report ended. Alex and I though, we knew it wasn't over cause we both saw something but we weren't gonna tell anyone. Hell they coulda been in on it. As we ran through the halls we ran into this shadowy figure. Couldn't make much of anything from him except one detail we'd never forget. His sleeve was showing and that sleeve. It's the exact same design as the one your wearing Commodore. The man was a damn flag officer. He ran away of course and I just wanted to get Alex back to the Shadowrunner. That prison ended up getting raided by the Cardassian guard and the group was assumed dissolved. Heck Alex and I thought it was just some corrupt bureaucrat that would cower away from failure....That wasn't the case. Since that day Alexandra Vance trusted no one except for me and anyone who earned her trust. She protected herself by keeping this stuff close to the chest. Fooled the counsellors, fooled command and maybe even you. The whole Ice Queen thing is cause she doesn't much want to let people in, partially cause she doesn't trust them and partially because of her....Gul Morat.
Morat is some Cardie radical whose daddy was killed by Dorin Kilus Alex's old CO. The crazy loon came back one day and tried to kill Dorin on a test flight for some Bajoran shuttle. He went so far as to fake his death just to try and trap her, but Morat is crafty. The woman saw right through it and nearly succeeded in getting him. See while we thought he was dead Morat had actually foiled his coup and took him hostage. No one was looking for him until Alexandra figured it out and went after her. That's when she found out it was Morat's group that roughed her up. Once Morat found out she vowed to kill the both of them and anything they held dear. So you see Alexandra doesn't act all icy cause she hates you. She does it so Morat won't come after you. Thing is, I think Alex was starting to trust you. I think she would have let you in, but she wasn't ready when Morat came knocking again. Shanks, that Admiral. Their all pawns. I bet that little witch has got those goons wrapped around her fingers and just waiting to strike. She probably doesn't much like Blackcat, Burke or Hunter either. You went and messed her plans up.
Morat wanted Alex, and now that she's got her she's coming for everyone else. You just better hope you aren't on her list.
And as for Alexandra. If you really think she's still alive. Then you take Morat down and you will win her trust and find yourself one of the most loyal friends you'll ever have. If you're family to Alex there is no line she won't cross to protect you.
