Mission: Revenge
Location: Secret Orion Facility

ON:

Alexandra took a moment to examine the area surrounding her once the confinement beam of the transporter dissipated from around her. Before her was a series of dimly lit damp tunnels most seemly a catacombs beneath the facility. She had seen similar designs before used to house power generation equipment, restricted areas and even moratoriums. Regardless the purpose was to remove a nuisance from the busier areas of a facility, sometimes even a guilt. Despite the visage some of her adversaries would put up, even they felt remorse....only the truly special ones felt nothing, the same was never more true when she killed them. They had a special place in hell lined up for them.

She pulled her her tricorder and began to scan the area looking for indications of which tunnel would lead to the main facility. The readings indicated the tunnels were manned by a sparse contingent of Orion life signs, likely guards but one tunnel led to stronger readings of life, sadly none human. She placed her tricorder back in her belt exchanging it with a phaser and proceeded towards the tunnel. As she approached the opening her mind was suddenly flooded with memories of the past and as if passing through a portal of time, she was taken back to a time long before this, a time she had thought long forgotten.

[[Moraine View State Park, Illinois, USA, 2357]]

The Vance family had embarked on a rare trip outside of the busy city of Chicago for a break from their hectic routines. Jethro Vance had recently returned from a long and tenuous business trip off planet and Kimberly needed time to wind down from the intense pace in the wake of her husband's trip. Alexandra sat in the back of the their transport smiling from ear to ear looking out the window wide-eyed and filled with excitement at the prospect of a rare and long anticipated adventure with her parents. Their time together was not plentiful but the family remained close by keeping connected with one another and adhering to the importance of the bond that was a family. These outings although rare were instrumental in their bond. Alexandra always looked forward to them referring to them though out the spacing between talking Naomi, her caregiver's ear off.

After a short trip south from the big city the Vance's found themselves camped in a site placed on the shore of the majestic lake. The day was warm, calm and the water glistened like glass as the sunlight reflected upon it towards the campsite. The air here was lighter and fresh with the scent of the land around them, a far contrast from the big city.

Alexandra was by the river bank attempting to skip rocks like her father had taught her. Few of her attempts were successful however she jumped with excitement when she was successful looking back to her mother seated only a few meters away relaxing on a lounge chair smiling back at her child approvingly. "Mama! Look I did it!" Alexandra screamed out excitedly once again as she skipped another rock.

"You did darling! You're getting very good at this. Just remember you have to use the flat ones they skip better." Kim replied back.

Alexandra nodded crouching down on the ground to find a flat rock like her mother described. She began to use her hands to push other rocks away when suddenly she shrieked in fear rushing several steps back. She put her hands to her face and began to cry. "Mommy!". Kim quickly rushed down to her child embracing her tightly looking around for the cause of such alarm. "Oh dear Alexandra shhhhh. What has you all in tears darling?"

"Mommy." Alexandra sniveled. "There's an ugly monster looking thing in the rocks." she said pointing to the area she had been digging in.

"A monster? I doubt that dear there are no such things as monsters and definitely not in a place as beautiful as this. Let's go see what it is." Kimberly stated still holding her daughter tightly guiding her gently towards her play spot.

"NO!" Alexandra screamed burying her head in her mother's waist resisting her motion.

"Come now Alexandra, it won't hurt you. Mommy will protect you okay?" Kim said soothing to her daughter.

Alexandra slowly looked up to her mother, her eyes red and soaked with tears. "Ok mommy." she said as her lower lip trembled.

Kimberly gently wiped the tears from Alexandra's face with her sweater before leading her over to the rocks. Alexandra remained pressed up against Kimberly making it hard for the two to move. As Kim approached the area she caught site of movement. Once realizing what had caused the uproar she began to laugh.

"What's so funny?" Alexandra asked looking up to her mother but afraid to look behind her.

"Honey, that's not a monster. It's a crayfish." Kimberly said petting Alexandra's head.

"I don't care what it is, you should kill it mommy!" Alexandra replied once again pushing into her mother.

Kimberly gently gripped Alexandra's arms and moved her back so she could speak with her daughter face to face. She tilted her head and slouched down to meet her daughter's eyes. "Now why would I go and do something like that?"

"Because!" Alexandra pouted.

"But why? Did it hurt you Alex?" she asked concernedly.

"No..." she mumbled. "It scared me, you saw!"

Kimberly let out a soft laugh. "But that isn't the crayfish's fault. It didn't mean to scare you. It was just trying to sleep."

"But, it's ugly and scared me." Alexandra pleaded wanting her mother to step on it so she could go back to playing.

"The crayfish can hardly help that! It didn't choose to look that way, that's the way it was made." Kimberly replied.

"But..but." Alex sobbed.

"Alexandra listen to me. You can't go around killing things because they are ugly or you don't like the way they look. That's wrong." she said somewhat scoldingly to her child.

"Mommy, it's just a crayfish." Alexandra shot back.

"Just a crayfish? It's more then just a crayfish it is a creature of this earth and it is to be respected. Honey, here on earth humans are very powerful. While we can give birth to life, we can also take it away just as easily. Some people will just squish bugs, some will do bad things to other people. To some other people are just like the crayfish here, they do bad things to people because those people aren't as strong as they are and they pick on these defenceless people for reasons just like yours. You just remember Alexandra, we may be at the top of the food chain here, but out there in space. There are lots of different types of people and if you start going around and hurting them for no reason, eventually someone bigger and tougher then you is gonna come along and do the same thing to you. Respect goes along way darling. People like your dad and I because we respect them."

"But what if they are trying to hurt you mommy? What if the bad guys want to come take me?" Alexandra asked confusedly.

"There is nothing wrong with protecting yourself or your family Alexandra. Your dad and I would never let anyone harm you, we love you so much. But we don't go around picking fights and you shouldn't either. This poor little crayfish does not deserve to die because it's different. That's not very fair is it?"

Alexandra shook her head. "No mommy it isn't."

"Good. Now come, let's go find your father he'll be starting the barbecue soon and I know how much you love his hot dogs." Kimberly smiled giving Alexandra a little tickle on her stomach.

Alexandra giggled. "OH YES mommy, let's go! let's go!" she said pulling on her mother's arm leading her towards the hill.

"Slow down Alexandra you are gonna pull my arm off." Kimberly laughed as she followed her daughter up the hill.

[[2 Hours later]]

"Hey mommy come here!" Alexandra called out to her mother.

Kimberly looked perplexedly back at her daughter walking down the hill to the river shore where Alexandra had been playing.

"Look!" Alexandra exclaimed pointing to the ground as her mother approached. Alexandra pointed to a small twig with a piece of red material tied around it placed near the area where she had first encountered the crayfish. "Now everyone will know where the crayfish is so they won't get scared."

A tear fell down her cheek and a smile lit up her face as Kimberly saw her daughter's creation.

[[Orion Facility, Present]]

Alexandra's mind returned to the caves beneath the Orion facility. She had not been noticed, she was also unaware of how long the event took. Vance checked her tricorder, no one was nearby. Alexandra leaned back against the cave wall setting her tricorder down to take in what had just transpired.

The camping trip was one of a series the family would take, but that one did stick out with that particular event. She defined her entire life by it, punishing those whom threatened her families and sought only to harm others. She had taken so many lives and so many times she wondered what her mother would have thought of her. The last time she was home Kimberly Vance still loved her daughter, but did she know whom Alexandra had become? or was she holding onto the memory of a child long lost?

Alexandra never stopped loving her. She retrieved her tricorder and placed it onto her belt rising from the cave wall. She looked up to the ceiling.

"I love you mommy." she said softly fighting back tears blowing a kiss and waving to the ceiling before continuing her descent into the tunnels.

OFF:

OOC: This is not a plot driven post but a little reminder for all to remember everything our mom's did for us, taught us and continue to do for us. Even in our darkest times, no matter what we do they will always stand beside us as we are always their little children.

Happy Mother's day to all the awesome moms out there!
