Mission: The Devils Snare
Location: Planetside
Timeline: Two hours after crash

As soon as Sam was sure Damon was asleep, she checked on the rest of the crew still in the hopper. She needed to make sure everyone was doing okay. Once she was assured of that, she paused by the doctor. "Is there anything you need?" she asked her.

Leanne gave a short smile. "I don't think so...I have everything I need, thanks."

Sam nodded. "Thanks."

CPL McCarthy was positioned 100 metres from the Hopper and the makeshift campsite. With the LT incapacitated Sam was the second ranked Marine and after making sure her spotter was in a commanding overwatch position of the camp, Sam returned to the camp in time to hear the young Marine telling LT York about the pilot's demise. ~3 hours on the planet and already we've lost someone, I wish Jethro was here to help~ she thought.

Moving amongst the Marines, CPL McCarthy started organising them into effective two man teams, she knew the Starfleet Officers had little experience working with the Marines and was doing what she could to make it easier for them.

CPL McCarthy then headed toward the Hopper and reported to her new CO. "LT York, I've got the remaining Marines organised into two man Fire teams and have set up a perimeter around the camp at 30 metres. We have an overwatch position about 100 metres out to warn us of anyone or anything coming toward the perimeter." "I'm sorry about LT Brooks."

"Thank you," Sam replied. "I do have a few questions, and a few things I need you to do, if you'll walk outside with me?" Sam had finished her inspection of the crew in the hopper and headed back out to the tent she had claimed as her own. "Having a lookout is good, but he or she can only see what's coming from one direction. We need to find a more secure place to set up camp. Close by, in case help comes, but preferably with a cave or some other place that can be easily defended if necessary. And we need food. A two-man fire team is good, but send four if they're going hunting for food. You may need the extra manpower. We'll need two on guard at all times. And a large fire. We don't know how cold it'll get tonight. I want to keep us warm and keep predators out. Food and shelter are our top priorities for now. Tomorrow we can start searching for whatever caused us to lose power." She paused for a moment. "Be sure to keep Lieutenant Raine and Sergeant Riley informed." She paused for a moment. "And if you would, please inform the others about Lieutenant Brooks. Especially Lieutenant Andeyemon."

Samantha York went back to setting up the camp. By the time the sun was low in the sky, both tents were up, a large fire was burning merrily in the middle of their makeshift camp, and several small rabbit-like creatures were cooking over the fire. A large metal pot was boiling water on a flat rock at the side of the fire.

Next to the hopper, a large pile of wood had been stacked. Enough to keep the fire going for at least two days. The Marines were doing guard duty in four-hour shifts.

Everyone who wanted was bedding down in the hopper. Samantha preferred to be in one of the tents. She headed to the hopper for a final chat with Damon before she went to her tent and bedded down for the night.
