[OLD]

Sam laughed merrily at the mental picture. "And I usually hate being tucked in by Marines, so we should get along just fine. Please, call me Sam. There are too many Lieutenants around here." Sam took a few tentative steps and smiled. The limp was almost gone. "If you need anything, let me know."

[NEW]

The corpsman nodded to Samantha before she walked off in the direction of the doctor.

On the way forward, she noticed two Marines struggling with what appeared to be a fallen storage rack that was supposed to be secured to the ceiling of the craft. The rack, loaded down with weapons and supplies, had broken off a number of its hinges and fallen, fortunately most of it had stayed in place. With a large huff the two manually pulled the broken portion of rack away with a very loud screeching sound and more than a few muted curses from the Marines. Private Reid couldn’t understand why they were going through so much trouble to fix a broken rack until she saw a hand come out from under it. The rack had fallen on one of the seats, on one of the passengers. She was quick to lend her help to the men. With one more concentrated pull there was enough space to get the passenger out and no more than a second had passed before Reid was reaching out for him.

“Come on buddy, I’m going to need your help to get you out of there.†She said to him.

Bak'ten was unresponsive to say the least. The pain in his left arm was tremendous. "Okay.... " He said, finally gathering strength enough to struggle along with the movements of the Marines and Sam.

Reid walked up to the doctor and announced herself. "Ensign? I understand that I will be answering to you as the chief medical officer on this mission."

"Yes, that is correct. I prefer people to call me Doctor Bowen instead of by rank," she said as she was checking the medikit for another gauze. "You are...?"

"Private First Class Reid, ma'am. Marine Corpsman."

=Hopper Cargo Bay=

Corporal Sam McCarthy recovered from the crash unbroken but very bruised, she had cradled the sniper rifle in it's protective casing and although that had received numerous impacts it had remained undamaged. After placing the case back into its cradle on the hull McCarthy slowly made her way through the Hopper, checking the condition of the Marines. Rifleman Andrew Miller was sitting upright, his eyes unblinking and a wave of emotion soaked through her body. They had been on a date when the call came through for the formation of the Away Team and they had laughed about the excitement of the mission, now he was dead.

Moving slower now, McCarthy made her way to where Staff Sergeant Riley was manually releasing the Cargo door.

Cradling her MK17 Phaser Rifle in the ready position, McCarthy made her way slowly down the ramp onto the planet surface, as soon as she had a 180 degree view she knelt and scan the surrounding area.

As soon as SSGT Riley had cleared the ramp and headed down the port side of the Hopper, McCarthy had completed her scan and headed down the starboard side scanning the surrounding area for any possible threats,

Meeting at the nose of the aircraft, McCarthy and Riley conferred briefly before she headed back into the Hopper to recover her TR116A Sniper rifle and find a suitable replacement for Miller her spotter, when she ran into LT York the mission leader.

"Immediate area clear and scouting patrol will be heading out in five minutes, ma'am." McCarthy briefed her new boss.

"I appreciate your enthusiasm, Corporal. Have you accounted for all the Marines and made sure the wounded have been taken care of?" Samantha asked her. "As soon as all the wounded are being treated, then we can secure the perimeter and set up camp.

"We've lost two Marines ma'am, with several wounded" McCarthy began.

"Excuse me for being blunt ma'am, but securing the area is our priority, the wounded personnel can be left in the Hopper and treated by your doctor while we make sure the area is safe." CPL McCarthy didn't like speaking to officers this way but she knew her job and the Science Officer had to accept the harsh reality.

"If we're being blunt, Corporal, no Marine worth his or her salt would go off and leave a wounded fellow Marine behind. They'd make sure their buddy was being taken care of, then they'd go off and secure the perimeter, if it was necessary. We don't even know if all the Marines have been accounted for yet. That takes priority. I strongly suggest you account for all your people first," Sam said sternly.
