Mission: What Dreams May Come?
Location: Conference Room

[CONTINUED]

[OLD]

"Well, what are we going to do? we can't keep draining the ships power, and after the coffee stops working, the next step is stims and that's a slippery slope I don't want to start down" Cam asked, looking over at Sam just as she jerked awake.

"That's what I want to discuss," she said. Sam looked around and the group gathered around the conference table. "The situation with the nightmares and lack of sleep is causing serious problems around the ship. No one has managed to isolate the cause of the problems, so I'd like us to brainstorm some ideas on what we can look for and how we might get this resolved."

[NEW]

Vance had yet to show up for the meeting, so Sam tapped her combadge. "York to Vance. Please join us in the conference room"

==Vance's Quarters==

Alexandra was strumming her guitar and drinking an earl grey tea when she was rudely interrupted by the sound of York's voice.

She rolled her eyes and tapped her commbadge. "Very well Commodore, I will be there in a few moments. Vance out."

She set her guitar down and finished off her Earl Grey Tea. She did not take the time to straighten her uniform as her mind was still unsettled by her earlier nightmare. The theme was nothing new to her but this one was far darker and far more real. In addition her nightmares were always about her experiences and her own punishment, never have she conjured up a thought of harming others...especially not Amarylis.

==Conference Room==

Vance entered the conference room noting everyone else was already present. Commodore York had not informed her of any meeting. She began to wonder the topic of discussion before her arrival. Perhaps Sam hoped Vance would buckle under peer pressure and divulge the details of Damion's mission.

Alexandra would not give her the satisfaction and took a seat to the right of the Commodore.

"Glad you could make it," Sam said. "We're discussing ways to get rid of the nightmare problem. Any suggestions?"

"I was unaware there were any problems with nightmares Commodore." Vance replied. Looking across the room she could now see the staff were sleep deprived, perhaps she was not the only one with demons.

"I am no expert in medicine nor psychiatry but perhaps having the chief medical officer determine if the cause is related to a condition affecting brain activity or if we are dealing with a form of Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome. If we are looking at the latter I recommend you set a course for the nearest Starbase and contact Starfleet Medical to have personnel sent to us immediately."

"I don't think it's PTSD. It's too universal for that. If it were just the people who were on the planet or the Borg ship, I'd agree with you, but this is far more pervasive than that."

In that case, you must have Commander Bowen examine the crew for the possibility of a neuro-toxin assuming she has the skills and equipment necessary for the task. If she requires aid I can assist her. There are many types of toxins out there that have been known to cause nightmares, thankfully most are easily detectable as masking the presence is not so important when the subject is being driven to insanity. Either way Commodore, you're wisest course of action is to return to Starbase."

Vance was masking her concern that the possibility of this toxin would put a damper on the logistical support she could provide Damion. However having a ship but no mind was of no use either, she would need to consult with Admiral Hunter immediately and possibly flee the Calypso before any adverse effects began to take form on her.

"If what we have is contagious, the last thing I want is to go back to a starbase and infect tens of thousands. Work with the doctor. Take blood samples and see if you can find anything concrete," Sam said.

Vance looked quizzically at the Commodore, perhaps the lack of sleep was affecting her but there were quarantine procedures for such an occurrence, however it would give her a chance to work away from Sam's sights and have Sam's attention diverted from what Damion was doing. "Very well Commodore, if you have nothing else I will submit myself to an exam by Doctor Bowen immediately." she replied with a smile.

"I meant take blood samples from some of the affected crew, see if you can find anything. You may find something Borg-related. The doctor may find a pathogen. I don't believe it's just you, Commander," Sam assured her.

Vance nodded and immediately left the room for sickbay.

Sam watched her go and then turned to Leanne, "Follow her. Make sure she actually goes to sickbay. See if the two of you can find anything." She didn't want to come right out and say it, but she suspected Vance would go back to her quarters instead of sickbay. Vance was acting more mistrustful than usual.

Eamon looked around in an awkward fashion then back at Jourdan. "I wasn't paying attention to where I was going, that's all." He said and his voice in the same awkward tone that he felt.

He then became aware of the tension in the room as he stepped passed Jourdan and she too stepped forward. Eamon's other foot came in behind Jourdan's then both tried to walk forward but instead both came crashing down to the floor.

A small child appeared before Eamon staring down at him. She had a long white night gown that reached her ankles, her hair was neatly tied in pigtails.

"Nine, Ten never sleep again...."

"I think we're both a bit tired" she said. "I'm used to being on floors" she yawned. "Care to help a girl up?"

"Sure," Eamon said after untangling himself from her and once on his two feet the Inaran held out a hand for the Chief Engineer.

Jourdan took his hand and was pulled up.
"Somehow, I didn't expect you to be so strong" she said with a smile.

"I work out, I am Chief of Security after all. Got to keep fit." Eamon said.

Jourdan simply smiled and blushed slightly. "Well, I'll let you know when I need some plasma conduits pulling out..." she said.

Eamon eyed Jourdan. "I'm sure you have strong people in Engineering to do that." He then walked over to a chair and sat down.

Khalpek said, "I've been trying to run some sensor analysis, but I am having a devil of a time concentrating on my work."

"Most of us are, unfortunately. Do the best you can," Sam said to Khalpek. "Get your whole team to help. I'm sorry, but I need that information."

Sam turned to Jourdan and Eamon, "Lieutenants Abbott and Lynx, check the ships' systems. Make sure they aren't affected again. It's unlikely, but I'd like to rule out all possibilities."

She looked around the room again, making eye contact with each of them. "Keep me informed. Dismissed."
