Mission: A Pirate's Life

[CONTINUED]

[OLD]

Damion, Commander Vance and an Admiral from Intel were arguing near a private shuttle. Whatever was going on, it didn't look good. Ronnie took a less-direct path around a shuttle to see if she could get closer to the conversation without making things worse. Maybe, if she could get close enough to Damion, she could keep him from doing or saying something to get himself in more trouble.

[NEW]

"Commander Vance?" she asked, walking up to the Executive Officer. "You said to come here?"

"Yes Lieutenant. If you have any final words you wish to convey to Mister Wolfe here I suggest you do so now." Vance stated simply with no emotion in her voice. She knew full well these would not be her last words to Ronnie, but possibly the last honest words.

Ronnie looked from Vance to Damion. "What do you mean, last words?"

Damion stood there listening to them. He had to think fast at get the players in their perspective places for all of this to work as Max suggested, except with Ronnie, things are now different. He was hoping to see her before all this, but Vance rushed it along and now he had to improvise. He couldn't explain to her what was going on, their relationship would be over for sure and he would be left with what he started with. Just a job and nothing to fight for.

His only two choices were to go through with it and risk losing her, or. Was the or even an option? Could he even pull it off and still manage to keep things intact? Was it even possible? Damion put his head down and closed his eyes, running through the only options but he still came up to the same conclusion. He needed to do the smart thing, but the smart thing would hurt him too much.

Vance looked over to Damion. He seemed to be deep in thought, his eyes closed and his head bowed. She began to wonder if he was having second thoughts....now was not the time to second guess, there was work to be done.

"Mister Wolfe....Do you have anything to say to Miss Lancaster before you depart?"

Depart? Where was he going? Ronnie wondered.

Damion heard the sound of the ramp to Max's shuttle going down. That was the cue. That was the signal. He looked up to Vance, opening his eyes and narrowing them slightly as he took in a deep breath. "None your allow to hear, Witch."

Alexandra wanted to smile but she suppressed it. She turned to Damion presenting a bigger target for him to fire upon. "Well then Mister Wolfe, I sincerely hope you are able to find yourself in your new home....I am sure Miss Lancaster would like to see you return with a heartbeat." she said with a smile wishing him luck in the best way she could without raising suspicion from Ronnie.

"Damion? What's going on?" Ronnie didn't like what she was hearing. Why was the Admiral here? Was he in more trouble than she thought? And why wouldn't she be able to see him again?

Damion looked up to Ronnie with sad eyes. It was the first time, in a long time, he looked at her in an honest way. "I'm sorry. Please don't freak out." He whispered and then suddenly growl, letting out a scream and kicking one of the guards back. He pushed his shoulder into the other and removed his phaser at the same time.

"Damion, no!" Ronnie cried, but he wasn't paying any attention.

It all seemed to happen so fast as he took a step toward Ronnie, putting his arms around her and turning her to face the others and firing one straight shot to Vance, exploding out on her chest and sending her back and to the floor.

Alexandra hit the floor hard trying not to brace herself to make the fatal shot look real. Her chest seared with pain from the beam. Control your breathing, long slow breaths she thought to herself as she closed her eyes and concentrated on her rhythm and not on the chaos ensuing around her.

Ronnie screamed and struggled to get away from Damion. She needed to get to Vance. She felt numb. This wasn't like Damion. He wouldn't do something like this. This was something Johnny would do, but she could tell by the way he spoke and moved that it was truly Damion and it made her heart sick.

He held her tight and close as he held out the phaser toward Max and the two other security guards in front of them. "Move and die!"

"Wolf! Stand down!" Max yelled as he reached for his phaser but another stream came out, shooting his phaser on his hip, which let out sparks.

"Not this time, Max! Never Again!" Damion yelled back in response as he let out a growl and held onto the phaser tightly and firmly. "You know I can fly off your cheek without hesitation. You trained me and now I am done being your damn monkey. I am done taking your falls and playing your scapegoat. I'm done with Starfleet!"

Max stood there, his eyes narrowed at him with a look of utter disgust. "Where you gonna go, Damion? No where, because no matter where you go I will find you! Let go of her and accept this consequence."

"First rule when dealing with a suspect with a hostage, Max. What is it?" Damion asked, putting the phaser to Ronnie's head as he looked at Max.

"This isn't going to end well, Wolf. Take it easy. Lets talk." Max replied, trying to sound calmly.

"Whats the rule, Max!"

Max narrowed his eyes and took a step slowly towards Vance's body, keeping his eyes to Damion and Ronnie. "Never use the words hostage."

"Good boy. Now step away from the shuttle." Damion yelled as he started to move slowly toward the shuttles ramp. "Whats the next rule? I don't mean the ones they teach you. I mean the one you taught me."

"Don't be afraid to take the hostage out of the equation. If the suspect has no shield, they no longer have cover and an open target." Max said as he crouched down, putting his hand on Vance's neck to take her pulse.

Ronnie began to struggle again. He wasn't serious, was he? Damion was going to shoot her, too? Or Max would. Either way, this had to be a nightmare. "Damion, please. Don't do this," she pleaded.

Damion narrowed his eyes and then laughed. "You broke the first rule, Max" He yelled as he shot again, sending a stream to his feet, causing Max to dive and dodge out of the way.
