Mission:
The Enemy Within: Lying in Wait
Location: Sickbay

Sam wanted to give the Marines time to adjust to the death of Leo before replacing him, but it was important that the new Marine CO take over so that all of them could get back to a more or less normal state.
Her first thought was to give Damon the job, but he had his own command now -- although he wasn't needed much, and she didn't want to take that away from him. Her second choice was the acting Marine XO.
He'd proven himself more than capable of the task on Tiberius IV. It took her a bit of time to get the proper paperwork pushed through for a field promotion.
Now, she stood outside Cam's room in sickbay. The nurse assured her he was awake and able to receive visitors. She paused for a moment and knocked on the door.
Cam was sitting on the biobed in his room, working out with barbells to strengthen his arm. He was still waiting for the replacement for his missing left arm, so in the mean time he was keeping in shape as much as he could. Hearing a knock at the door, Cam quickly slipped on a shirt and walked over to open the door to reveal the CO standing there, "Commadore, to what do I owe the honor?"
Sam noticed the weights and smiled, glad he was keeping busy. "I hear Leo made you acting Marine XO."
Cam nodded, "Yes Ma'am, the Major told me about it just before we went down to the planets surface"
"With him gone, I'm in need of a replacement." She handed him a box. "General Khan authorized your promotion to Warrant Officer. You can take a series of exams and, once passed, can then advance to Second Lieutenant. Congratulations, Cam."
Taking the box from Sam, Cam sighed and gave an uncomfortable smile, "thank you Ma'am, this is an honor and I'll try not to let you down, but if I may ask, why are you choosing me for this? I'm sure that there's some Marine Captain who is just dieing to get the lead"
"Probably, but I like to promote in-house when possible. And, as I said, you more than proved yourself capable on Tiberius IV. I've heard nothing but good things about you from both the away team and Colonel von Hackleberg. General Khan agrees."
Cam smiled, "i was just doing my job Ma'am, Thankfully all it cost me was an arm" he said, placing the small box onto the bed beside him. "I'm still at least a week away from returning to active duty. Until I'm back on my feet, Staff Sergeant Melo should be able to handle things. I understand she spent most of her off duty time down here while I was uncontious"
"The nurse mentioned that to me. You appear to already have Marines who are loyal to you," she smiled. "As for your arm, Doctor Bowen assures me there should be no trouble in regenerating a new one. A week should be plenty of time for the regeneration and rehabilitation."
"Well, let's just hope there's no problems"
Sam felt the same way, but she didn't say it. "Is there anything you need from me?"
Cam smiled, "Can I get bigger quarters?" He joked. As a recon marine, he still found having his own quarters a big deal.
"Sure. The Marine CO's quarters are quite nice -- as far as starship cabins go. I'll talk to the Quartermaster and have everything ready for you by the time you get out of here." She also needed to arrange for Leo's personal effects to get packed up and shipped home. She hated that part as much as she hated writing letters to the family. But as he was a department head she wanted to be sure the family knew how much he was respected by both his subordinates and his superiors.
"Do you need me to write Major Mangalia's Family? I'm taking over his job, I may as well write the letter of condolence" Cam offered.
"I'll write it. But if you want to write one as well, I'll be happy to include it. They might like hearing from a Marine."
"I'll get to work on it as soon as I can"
"Thank you," she said, smiling her gratitude. "I'll let you get back to recovering. If you need anything, don't hesitate to ask."
Cam nodded, "I'll keep that in mind"
