Ted followed the engineers to engineering. He had business to discuss with the chief engineer. The captain had approved a few changes to the lounge, but he needed engineers to implement them. He entered engineering and looked around for someone who seemed to be the boss.
Alex looked up from her console as a young Ensign tapped her on her shoulder. She looked at the man, her devastatingly beautiful eyes sparkling with curiosity.
"Excuse me, Lieutenant." The young man said. "There is someone looking for you."
"Oh?" Alex got up from her seat and followed the Ensign over to the person who was looking for her. She looked up to the man with a bright and beautiful smile. Naturally, since she was only 5'4", she looked up at almost everyone. "Lieutenant Alexandra Adeyemon, Chief Engineer..." She held out a hand.
Ted smiled and took her hand. She was kinda pretty. "Hello, I'm Ted, the new lounge manager. I could use some structural help in the lounge. I want to have a stage built for things like oboe or violin concerts and plays that the crew wants to put on. I also need some help moving some rather large items." The look on his face told her they weren't just large; they were gigantic.
She smiled. "What sorts of large items? I'd need to know before I send a team."
"Pool tables. They normally require about eight men to lift, but I was thinking of transporters..." It was clear that this man had done this before. "And I could use any ideas on the stage." He handed her a padd with his ideas of specifications on it.
"I could speak to Operations for you. They do most of the heavy lifting around here." She made a note on the PADD in her hand, then looked back up at the man. "I haven't seen you around before...probably because I'm always down here." She giggled, then brushed the long healthy brown hair from in front of her eye.
Ted was weirded out...was she flirting with him? While she was on duty? Nevertheless, he nodded. "I just arrived a couple days ago and I've been in the cargobays mainly because that's where all the drinks and food are. We have some genuine Jim Beam, Jose Cuervo, Jack Daniels, Captain Morgan, and a number of wines and ales. Even got some teas you may not have seen like Romulan herbdraught. If you have one cup of this, you'll be more awake than if you had two mugs of raktajino."
"I've never tried it. I do like Romulan food though. I know alot about the culture and even speak Rihansu fluently." She leaned her back against the pool table, crossing her legs in front of her as she set the PADD down. "I'll stop by later and try it out. I don't get very much sleep on this ship anyway."
Ted frowned, still smiling. "Why not? Everyone needs their sleep. This coming from a father of two small kids."
"No time. I'm kept pretty busy down here. I don't like to delegate and do alot of work myself. You have children?" She asked curiously.
Ted nodded. "Two boys. Petey is seven and Greg six. I love them to death, but sometimes I just need a break." He considered her. "You should learn to take a break, too. If you don't, you'll work yourself into an early grave."
Alex laughed gently. "I doubt that..I know exactly when it's time for fun.."
Ted smiled at that. "We got some good drinks in the bar if ever you want to try it." He paused for a second then said, "So how about that stage in the lounge? Would it be possible to have a stage in the lounge with some holothingies?"
She laughed and stood up straight, folding her arms over her chest. "That really depends on what a holothingy is.." Her beautiful white smile was clear.
"You know, the thingies that let you make a hologram? I was thinking of a stage with a holographic band at times, and when it's turned off some of the crew could perform a play or play the violin or something like that."
Alex played violin, as well as many other instruments. "Well, I'd be happy to have a stage constructed and install holoemiters. I'd also love to preform on that stage."
Ted nodded and smiled again. He had a good smile. "That sounds good. I'd love to have ya there. It's good for a crew to have a bit of a distraction every now and then."
She nodded with a beautiful smile, then turned quickly turned as she heared a loud bang and a bright flash from behind her. "54 terajules, Marks!!" Everyone in the room visibly moved out of her way. She turned back to Ted. "I told you I have to do everything. I'll see about that stage thing." She then turned and ran toward the wall conduit which was now smaking perfusly.
It was a good time to leave. Ted turned around and left engineering, wondering how long it would be before the stage was done. Then he decided, it would get done when it got done and nothing he did would make any difference. He left and went to operations to get the pool tables taken care of. He sighed. It would be a long day.
