Mission: The Enemy Within: Lying in Wait
[CONTINUED]
[Transporter Room]
Looking in the transporter room, Leo was beginning to wonder if there was such a thing as over kill. 300 Marines, almost the entire unit on the Calypso, was standing there waiting to get on the new Borg ship and take it down. Each of them carried a TR weapon with a plasma cutter and a blade of some sort. All of them had packs full of extra ammo, and orders to terminate on sight.
No snipers were coming, six Engineers, and the rest grunts, they looked impressive. "Master Sergeant Bourne, your in charge till I get back." He said looking at the senior NCO. Not having an XO at this point really hurt, but there wasn't much he could do. -^-Captain, were ready to go when you are. Get us over there and we'll make sure that we get our XO home, along with anyone else we can save.-^-
Corporal Heulinu "Henry" Zhap, a corpsman, was ordered to be on this away mission along with the marines in line. Hearing that they will be boarding a borg ship, he slightly shook his head and thought that this is going to be a suicide mission because humans are not stronger than the borgs. His number one agenda in this career is to save lives then be a marine. He hopes that they can take this one down.
Sam walked into the large transporter room and looked for Leo. "Major, can I have a word with you?"
She pulled Leo aside and handed him a hypospray. "Leo," she said, her voice quiet. "This contains Borg nanites. Altered nanites. Inject some of your people. If they become assimilated, these nanites will infect the rest of the ship. Because of recent scans, we believe that the Borg suffer from a form of silicosis. This will make it harder for them to breathe and will make them deaf to the rest of the collective. I'm hoping the combined attack will disrupt their ability to work cohesively and allow us to shut them down."
Leo, after taking the hypo, looked at his men. "Is it going to stop them from becoming Borg?" He asked wondering who to inject with the serum. The way it sounded, the person themselves was going to die of silicosis. "Corpsman, administer this to one of the NCO's." Smiling he tossed the hypo to the man and looked back. "When we can, we're ready Captain. What are the orders besides get our men back?"
Corpsman Zhap caught the instrument, "Yes, sir."
"Destroy the devices that purify the oxygen. Inject that into a Borg or into your men if the Borg assimilate them. Bring everyone back. Doctor Bowen can reclaim anyone taken by the Borg if we can get them back."
"Copy Ma'am," Leo said keeping to the decision to inject one of the NCO's. "It'll get done. Give us five minutes before you decide to send us off, and we'll be in battle formation."
Henry got out of line and used the hypospray to touch each person's neck until it hissed. By the time he got the last one, he touched his own neck before he approached Leo. "You're next, sir."
Leo shook his head, waving the hypo away. "I'll be fine corpsman, double dose Sergeant Anderson, he's going to be our dodo." Looking back at the Captain he smiled. "We're ready now." Turning he looked behind him. "Form up! I want a 360 defense, ten groups. We find that machine, we shut it down and we save our crew!" The men standing there cheered their leaders words and left a spot in the defensive bubble on the outskirts for Leo. "When you give us the go, then go."
Sam looked at the Marines. "Just remember this is a quick strike mission. Get in, get the job done and get out. I want each one of you back here. If one of you does get taken by the Borg, we can find you through the nanites and transport you back. Good luck."
Sam turned back to Leo. "We have a plan to distract the Borg long enough to get you onto the rhombus. When you get my signal, head out."
Leo nodded, and locked his TR into action. "We wont need luck Captain, the Marines here are the best in the fleet." Slinging the rifle he checked his handgun and then the sword on his back. "Captain, when we get back, I have an idea for a performance I've been working on. It'll have to take place on a leave planet, since I doubt you'll agree to fire in the holodeck."
"It depends on what sort of fire you're talking about," Sam said. "We can talk when you get back. Good luck, Leo."
Tallas took a deep breath as she watched York and the Marines. She wondered if the work they did would be enough to get the job done. She didn't want to become a borg. She didn't want to be hooked up to the Collective. She wanted it to work. Tallas prayed for it to work.
Sam smiled at Tallas, feeling her trepidation and wanting to reassure her. "They're the best of the best. Come on, let's get back to the bridge."
[Borg Rhombus]
Remodulate sensors, filter out the federation particles and target the power systems.Vance communicated to the other drones. Within moments the targetting sensors had locked onto the federation vessel and commenced the attack.
Do not destroy the vessel, the federation personnel MUST be assimilated. We require their knowledge to complete our mission.

[Bridge]
Sparks flew from a console as the borg hit the ship with another volley."Helm evasive pattern beta 2!" Malcolm shouted from the center seat. The Captain had yet to return from the lower decks meaning he was still in command until she got back. He turned to face the Tactical station."Target all phasers at their weapons arrays maybe we can get them offline for a minute or two, use torpedoes if you have to but don't destroy that ship, we need our people back." Malcolm hoped the Captain returned soon he didn't like this situation and would surely need to give himself some counseling sessions after this ordeal.
"Aye." Ensign Violet Stronghold, at Tactical, replied as she worked the targeting perimeters and triggered the firing sequence for both the closest phaser strips as well as the launchers facing the Rhombus.
=^= Bridge this is Rei, we have put tricobalt devices in the lifepods on deck 20 and they are ready to launch. =^=
"Thank you Rei, however I suggest you put lifesign indicators inside the pods as well." Violet replied.
=^= You know that is a good idea thanks ma'am. =^= Rei said.
"No worries, Bridge out." Violet closed the channel as she heard the turbolift open.
Sam ran onto the bridge. "Are the life pods prepped with the tri-cobolt devices?" she asked tactical.
"Momentarily ma'am, I believe that we should have lifesign indicators on the pods as well to make them more attractive to the Borg so they will take the pods on their ship."
"If you can do it in the next ten minutes, that would be great. If not, just mask the bombs."
Violet smiled. "I took the liberty of organizing it before you came onto the Bridge ma'am." She watched her display as it showed the pods changing colour indicating that Rei's team were already half way done with the task. "Another 2 minutes I believe until we're ready." She announced.
"Good work! Thank you."
Malcolm breathed a sigh of relief as he got up from the Captain's chair and moved aside so she could take her seat.
Sam nodded her thanks. "Veer off. 402 mark 16. Make it look like we're running away. Launch pods. Coordinates are already programmed."
Violet had a text memo from Rei that he had finished installing the indicators on the pods and quickly relayed her thanks before she turned to the CO. "Aye, launch protocol in progress." She watched the display on her console show that the selected pods vanish from their assigned ports.
Six life pods launched, appearing to be evacuating the ship. They fanned out as if to pass the Borg Rhombus as it chased the fleeing Calypso.
"Are you sure this will work Commodore?" Malcolm asked trying to hide his nervousness
"I'm not sure of anything right now, Lieutenant. I'm trying to pull a rabbit out of my hat. But if this works, we'll give them a fight they won't soon forget."
[[Borg Rhombus]]
Alter course four zero two mark one six. Target has not changed..
The Borg vessel continued it's pursuit of the Federation vessel pounding the shields. Analysis determined the shields could only sustain the assault for three minutes at which point the vessel would be vulnerable and adequate for assimilation to begin.
